Reed Chef Manager Cited By Chartwells

Out of approximately 550 schools in the Northeast, Scott Kanzow, Reed Intermediate School cafeteria chef manager, has been awarded Chartwells’ Hourly Associate of the Year Award for 2011.

The Northeast Hourly Associate of the Year exemplifies business excellence and goes above and beyond the call of duty in areas such as community service, financial performance, customer and client satisfaction, wellness, and diversity on a daily basis, according to Chartwells.

Dan Shields, Chartwells’ food service director for Newtown Public Schools, said, “Scott has successfully improved all aspects of the food service program at Reed Intermediate School through utilization of his extensive culinary skills, business management education, food service management experience, and unique management style.”

Mr Kanzow has partnered with Jill Patterson, RD, Chartwells’ resident dietitian for Newtown Public Schools, to provide innovative nutrition education programs and promotions for students, faculty, staff, and parents by preparing food presentations that have livened up taste testing events.

Mr Kanzow has created innovative concepts such as the “Tour of Herbs and Spices” and a special “Day of Peace” menu to complement the Reed Intermediate School’s curriculum.

Ms Patterson said Mr Kanzow’s carving station is always a favorite of students and staff at Reed.
