Learn Dance From The Masters
At NVCC This Spring
WATERBURY â Naugatuck Valley Community College is offering four âmaster danceâ classes this spring, giving students the opportunity to learn techniques in ballet and several modern dance styles from instructors who dance with internationally renowned companies.
Karry Orelup, an instructor at the Nutmeg Ballet in Torrington who is also an adjunct faculty member at NVCC, will teach a seven-session course in ballet on January 28, February 4, 18, 25, and March 4, 11 and 18, from 11:10 am to 12:30 pm.
Students in this course are expected to have some ballet training.
Rachel Graziano, a graduate of NVCCâs fine arts/dance department who is pursuing her dance career in New York City, will give a three-session course in urban modern dance on February 28, March 7 and March 14, from 4 to 5 p.m.
On February 8, from 5 to 6:30 pm, Leo Arpon will offer instruction on Horton modern dance. Mr Arpon, an instructor who is well-known to Waterbury area students, will be back again in May with the Litchfield Performing Artsâ Project Poetry Live and Earl Moseleyâs Diversity of Dance Company.
Rebecca Darling, an apprentice and member of the Louis/Nikolais Dance Company and dancer with Pilobolus, the international dance company out of Washington Depot, will be teaching a course in Murray Louis modern dance on February 25 from 6 to 8 pm.
Every class will be held in the Fine Arts Center, Room A404. They are $5 each for NVCC students and $10 each for the general public. Registration is required for all master dance classes, which are sponsored by NVCCâs student activities club, The Terpsichoreans. Located on Chase Parkway off Exit 18 on Interstate 84, NVCCâs associate degree offerings include a degree in fine arts/dance. The college serves 35 communities across western Connecticut from Litchfield to Waterbury to Seymour to Southbury and Danbury.
