New Consumer Protection Commish Named

HARTFORD (AP) — Governor Dannel P. Malloy has named a Hartford antitrust attorney as Connecticut’s new consumer protection commissioner.

Gov Malloy appointed William M. Rubenstein to the position on January 24, pledging he will protect consumers from nefarious business practices.

Mr Rubenstein is a partner with Axinn, Veltrop and Harkrider LLP where he has worked on cases involving intellectual property and trade regulation. He is also the firm’s ethics officer.

The 59-year-old served in the state attorney general’s office from 1986 to 1997 and participated in the state’s lawsuit against big tobacco.

He is expected to pay close attention to protecting consumers from Internet fraud.
