Snapshot: Lou DeRosa Jr
Family: My wife Stephanie, daughters Madelyn and Sophie, and son Louie III — we call him Trey.
Pets: We have two dogs, Lucy and Ethel.
How did you meet your wife? We met in high school. We did a project in Health class where we had to make believe we were married, set up our finances, this and that. We remained friends and after high school we dated, but then we split up, and then we got back together. We have quite a long history.
How long have you lived in Newtown? We’ve lived here for about six years. We’re originally from Norwalk.
Work: I started the trades at an early age. My father was a handyman, and growing up one of six in an Italian household, you work, you help your parents out. I was always the one who was gung ho to work with my dad and get my hands dirty, and that has transpired into what I do today. I owned an ice cream truck right out of college for a few years, then ran a beach concession at Southport Beach for a few years. A close friend hired me for HVAC work, which gave me the introduction to that work, before I worked for Standard Oil for five or six years.
It got to the point where I wanted to spend more time with my family though — see them more, be more available — and when you make your own schedule you can do that. That’s where the idea came from to launch my own company, Trinity Mechanical Services. We service anything and everything that consumes oil, propane, and natural gas. We do installations, service, diagnostics.
Are you a member of any clubs, organizations and/or communities of faith? We go to St Rose Church.
Favorite actor? I’m a big Keanu Reeves fan. He’s a good person as well. You always hear about him doing really nice things for people.
Favorite movie genre? Fantasy or sci-fi. I’m a huge Lord of the Rings fan. Me and my wife actually had a Lord of the Rings-themed wedding.
What was the most recent movie you saw in the theater? Avatar: Fire and Ash.
What is the greatest piece of advice you have ever been given? I can tell you the opposite: The worst advice I’ve even been given was “Don’t change.” That’s in conjunction with another quote I had from a college professor, who always told me “If you want to grow, you gotta go.” That doesn’t always mean if you want to grow, you need to leave somewhere, but you have to leave a mental state. You have to leave a physical state. If you want to grow, you have to break out of your shell and become more.
What is your proudest accomplishment? Being a father.
What is something you cannot live without? My family.
Favorite color? Green.
Favorite food? I love steak — especially the baseball steaks from Station 25 — and I love beef stew. Either is my favorite.
If you could spend the day with one person, living or deceased, who would you choose and why? Probably Robin Williams. I always found him hilarious. I feel like even though everything was comedy, he had a lot of insights as well. It’d be nice to talk with him, pick his brain.
What is your favorite thing about Newtown? The community. We moved here originally for the schools — it’s renowned, it really is — and after we moved here we found this great community of people. Everybody’s supportive and extremely friendly.
Do you have a personal credo? Honesty. Integrity. Reliability.
