A watercolor landscape demonstration presented by Patricia Barkman began The Society of Creative Arts of Newtownâs (SCAN) Annual Color in January Show & Sale on Saturday, January 23, at Lexington Gardens, on Church Hill Road.
Roughly 50 people gathered to hear Ms Barkman explain her tips and techniques for creating watercolor landscapes.
âInto my backpack go my supplies for painting,â Ms Barkman explained.
She held up supplies she typically carries with her to paint landscapes, like her brushes, wrapped in a device so she cannot lose them; a piece of plastic, used to sit on and to spread her supplies on; and a book to fill with images of the landscapes.
âEverything has to be light weight,â Ms Barkman said.
Just behind Ms Barkman during her presentation were art works on display for SCANâs January show.
From paintings of other landscapes to still life images of plants, food and more, SCANâs show offers an array of work.
The art will be on display at Lexington Gardens, 32 Church Hill Road, through January 31. The show is open during regular business hours (Tuesday through Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm; and Sunday, 10 am to 4 pm), and there will be two more artist demonstrations this coming weekend. Alain Picard will offer a pastel portrait demonstration on Saturday, January 30, at 12:30, and Beverly Branch will offer a demonstration on creating a portrait with acrylics on Sunday at 12:30. There is no charge for the show or demonstrations.
