Scholarships Available At NHS
The following scholarships and special programs (for sophomores and juniors) have arrived in the Career Center at Newtown High School. Applications and/or more information for these scholarships and programs, as well as ones previously listed in The Bee, are available there. Please call Mrs McEvoy at 426-1915 if you have any questions.
The Newtown Scholarship Association, Inc. â For high school seniors who reside in Newtown and will be attending college in the fall of 2000. The number and amount of scholarships vary. This is an excellent source of financial assistance for the students of Newtown! Students who wish to apply must also submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the Federal Government as relevant documents from this process are needed. Application must be in to Guidance by April 12, 2001.
Education Connection â For high school seniors who plan to pursue a career which relates to Education Connectionâs mission and programs and who has a long-term commitment to community service. A description of their mission and programs is on the application in the Career Center. Completed applications must be received by April 13, 2001.
University of Connecticut School of Engineering 2000 Summer Residential Experience â For sophomores and juniors interested in a one-week residential program at UConn from June 24 through 29, 2001. Fifty students will be selected to attend this program and the cost is $200 per student. See Mrs McEvoy in the Career Center for applications and more information. Applications must be submitted no later than March 5, 2001.
Yale University Frontiers in Science and Engineering Program for 2001 â For upperclassmen, a series of informal lectures to illustrate the variety of opportunities available to students in a university science or engineering curriculum. In addition to the four science/computer technology lectures, one lecture will be devoted to the topic of the admissions process at Yale. The dates for the 2001 program will be March 10, 17, 24, 31, and April 7, 2001. It is not necessary for students to attend all five lectures. Applications are available in the Career Center or through Yaleâs Web site at http://www.yale.edu/frontiers. These must be received by February 24, 2001.
