Student Artwork Chosen For Competition

Over 65 Middle Gate students submitted artwork in four different categories for the national Reflections Cultural Arts PTA Competition.

This year’s theme was “It would be really strange if…” Students could submit work in four different categories – music, visual arts, literature, and photography, for kindergarten through second grade and third through fifth grade.

Local judges picked eight entries to be sent to the state level in February. Then in the spring, if picked at the state level, artwork is submitted for the national competition.

The following students’ work was selected to be submitted at the state level: photography – Denise Branecky, fourth grade, and Timothy Wilder, second grade; music – Yossi Kohrman, kindergarten, and Molly Matthei, third grade; literature – Alexandra Cernick, second grade, and Samantha Ross, fifth grade; and visual arts – Rachel Rode, first grade, and Lauren Busser, fifth grade.

Students worked on their entries on their own time. This was an extracurricular activity through the PTA. Organizers were Ann De La Vega, Barbara Donahue, and Jill Fleming.
