Botsford MVA

A two-vehicle accident took place in Botsford about 6 am January 15, police report. As motorist Thomas Chanaca, 22, of Easton, who was driving a 1997 Mazda 626, attempted to make a right turn, the Mazda slid on the snowy road and collided with a 1994 Ford Ranger pickup truck, driven by Thomas Miller, 60, of Terryville, which was stopped at a red traffic signal at the intersection of South Main Street and Botsford Hill Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Chanaca an infraction ticket for making an improper turn.

Main Street Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred on Main Street in the town center about 7:15 am January 14, according to police. The accident involved James Riddle, 18, of 21 Lyrical Lane, who was driving a 1994 Ford Explorer, and motorist Edward Clark, 39, of Danbury, who was driving a 1985 Chevrolet Camaro, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Riddle a written warning for following too closely.

Credit Card

On January 22, police arrested Peter Piccirillo, III, 29, of 55 Sugar Street on a warrant listing three counts of illegal use of a credit card.

Piccirillo allegedly ordered merchandise on a credit card owned by a Maine resident, police said. The merchandise was delivered to Piccirillo’s residence, police said.

Police released Piccirillo on a promise to appear February 3 in Danbury Superior Court.

 

Outstanding Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, William Callahan, 48, of Danbury turned himself in at the police station on January 23  and was charged with second degree failure to appear in court, driving under the influence, evading responsibility, and failure to keep to the right on a curve. The motor vehicle charges stem from a past incident.

Police held Callahan on a bond for a January 23 court arraignment.

High School

On January 17, a person found a black leather wallet at the Newtown High School gymnasium and turned it over to police for safekeeping. The owner may claim the wallet at the police station at  3 Main Street.

Motor Vehicle Charges

Police said they saw motorist Jeffrey Cas, 38, of Sandy Hook driving a Chevrolet pickup truck on Riverside Road at about 6 pm January 21 with marker plates that belonged on another vehicle.

In investigating the case, police charged Cas with misuse of marker plates, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without a license, and driving without automotive insurance.

Police said Cas is scheduled to appear February 5 in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

Lamp Posts

On January 18, someone damaged two residential lamp posts at a home on Georges Hill Road. Police are investigating the criminal mischief and ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact them at 426-5841, or 270-8888.

Church Hill Crash

About 5:12 pm January 20, motorist Curtis Presti, 36, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2002 Volvo S-60, was pulling out of a driveway at 20 Church Hill Road to travel westward on Church Hill Road, according to police.

At that time, motorist Owen Curry, 31, of Pawling, N.Y. was driving a 2003 Dodge Dakota pickup truck eastward on Church Hill Road, police report.

After encountering an icy patch on the driveway, the Volvo was unable to maneuver swiftly and collided with the Dodge, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Presti a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

South Main Collision

Motorist Audrey Mancini, 44, of Wolcott, who was driving a 1993 Dodge Stealth coupe southward on South Main Street at about 4:10 pm January 20,  stopped to make a left turn into the driveway at 99 South Main Street, and was struck from behind by motorist Alison Cavallaro, 21, of Milford, who was driving a 1997 Plymouth Breeze, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Cavallaro a written warning for following too closely.

Dog Hit

At about 7:40 pm January 19, a 10-year-old springer spaniel dog was struck by an unknown vehicle near #25 Washington Avenue, police report. The dog was seriously injured by the impact. The vehicle which hit the dog is believed to have been traveling eastward. Police ask anyone who knows who hit the dog to contact them at 426-5841 or 270-888.

Bad Check

After learning that Newtown police held a warrant for his arrest, David Todd, 44, of Shelton turned himself in and was charged on January 23 with issuing a bad check, police said. Todd is scheduled to appear February 10 in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charge.

Newtown police said that after processing the arrest, they turned over Todd to Trumbull police who wanted him on a similar charge.

Street Sign

On January 21, police found a street-name sign for Lafayette Trail that was broken off its sign post and lying on the ground at Newtown High School. Lafayette Trail is a dead end street off Tamarack Road. Police ask anyone with information on the vandalism and theft to contact them at 426-5841 or 270-8888.

Refrigerator

Sometime between 8 pm January 19 and 4:30 am January 20, someone illegally dumped a white Whirlpool-brand refrigerator in a rear parking lot at 26 Hawleyville Road. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the matter to contact them.

Concrete Mixer

Police learned that on or about January 13, someone stole a concrete mixer  from a residential construction site on Pearl Street in the Tilson Woods subdivision in Sandy Hook. The Muller-brand mixer is painted yellow. Police are seeking information from the public about the theft.

Castle Hill Mischief

Sometime between 7:30 pm January 24 and 7:30 am January 25, someone was throwing beer bottles from a vehicle that was traveling on Castle Hill Road, police said. Also, rocks were stolen from a stone wall there which were then thrown at a home. Police ask the public for information on who did the mischief.

Two Charged

Police report they charged two young adults on warrants on January 23 in connection with a past incident at the Newtown Shopping Village parking lot at 6 Queen Street.

Police said they charged Jerry Dachenhausen, Jr, 22, of 8 Hitfield Road with breach of peace and with following too closely with the intent to harass. Police said they charged Autumn Hanshaw, 21, of Monroe with breach of peace. Both people turned themselves in after learning that police held warrants for them.

Police said the arrests stem from their investigation into a past incident in the parking lot involving a physical altercation. Dachenhausen is slated to appear in court February 5. Hanshaw is scheduled to appear in court February 3.

Dodge Hit Stump

Police report a one-car accident in the Platts Hill Road/Hundred Acres Road area on January 19. Police said motorist Jaclyn Morrissey, 17, of 29 Platts Hill Road was driving a 1998 Dodge Intrepid which went out of control on the snowy road and struck a tree stump off the right road shoulder. Morrissey was not injured. Police issued her a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Larceny Arrest

Police said they charged Rosangela Campos, 26, of Danbury on a warrant on January 21 at Danbury Superior Court, lodging one count of third degree larceny in connection with her alleged theft of a check  worth more than $2,000 from a Newtown business. Campos cashed the check, police said. Campos was arraigned on the charge that day at court, police said.

SUV Vs Bus

Police report an accident between a sport-utility vehicle and a school bus at about 7:45 am January 22 on Marlin Road.

A school bus carrying students, which was driven by Maria Adams, 52, of 22 Little Brook Lane, was traveling eastward on Marlin Road, as motorist Jennifer Gerda, 28, of 77 Marlin Road pulled out of a driveway at that address to go westward, resulting in a collision, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Gerda a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a driveway.

Mazda Vs Toyota

A two-car accident occurred at an intersection of South Main Street and Appleblossom Lane on January 19, police report. The crash involved motorist Ausra Lopas, 68, of 40 Appleblossom Lane, who was driving a 1994 Mazda Protégé, and motorist Guinevere Benton, 70, of Southbury, who was driving a 1999 Toyota Corolla, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Lopas an infraction ticket on a charge of failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Route 34 Accident

On January 21, motorist Chantal Huskins, 17, of 75 Osborn Hill Road was driving a 2002 Ford Focus northward on Route 34 behind a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix, which was driven by Janet Ciaccio, 50, of 27 Osborn Hill Road, police said.

The Pontiac slowed to allow a motorist in front of it to turn left and then Ford struck the Pontiac from behind, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Huskins an infraction ticket for following too close.

Church Hill Accident

Motorist Daniel Fusco, 33, of 34 Pine Tree Hill Road, who was driving a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am, stopped on eastbound Church Hill Road for school-related traffic at about 2:50 pm January 22, police report. Motorist Roselyn Arcadio, 46, of Bethel, who was driving  a 2000 Dodge Caravan, stopped behind the Pontiac, police said. Motorist Barbara Kelchner, 74, of 12 Walnut Tree Hill Road, who was driving a 1999 Honda Civic, then struck the Dodge from behind, pushing the Dodge into the Pontiac, police said.

There were no injuries, police said. Police issued Kelchner an infraction ticket for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Pearl Street

On January 20, a white male motorist, who was driving a blue sedan, which was possibly a Plymouth Acclaim, collided with a residential mailbox at 16 Pearl Street in the Tilson Woods residential subdivision and then drove away, police said. The vehicle would have front-end damage. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the matter to contact them.

Dodgingtown Crash

At about 9 am on January 22, motorist David Gordon of Seymour, who was driving a heating fuel tanker truck northward on Rock Ridge Road, near its intersection with Robin Hill Road, took a sharp corner and crossed over into the road’s southbound lane, police said.

At that time, southbound motorist Kimberly Baxter of 25 Rock Ridge Road, who was driving a 1998 Honda CRV, encountered the tanker truck and then slammed on her brakes, police said. Southbound motorist Tim Hanley of 3 Fox Run Lane South, who was driving a 1997 Audi A-4, also put on his brakes, but skidded on the snowy road and struck the rear end of the Honda, police said.

There were no injuries. The tanker truck did not make contact with the other vehicles, police said. Police issued Gordon a written warning for failure to drive to the right on a curve.

Moving Violations

Police report that on January 24 they charged motorist Anthony Corleto, 44, of 6 Whitewood Road with failure to obey a stop sign and with driving while under suspension. Police released Corleto on a promise to appear February 12 in Danbury Superior Court.

Nissan Vs Toyota

Motorist Garry Meyers, 73, of 31 Narragansett Trail, who was driving a 1996 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck eastward on Church Hill Road, near its intersection with Commerce Road, slowed for traffic at about 2 pm January 26, and was struck from behind by eastbound motorist James Cyr, 37, of Stamford, who was driving a 1992 Nissan Maxima, police report.

There were no injuries in the mishap. Police issued Cyr a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Aunt Park Lane

Police report several acts of vandalism along Aunt Park Lane in the Hattertown section. At about 12:20 am January 25, police learned that two male youths had been spotted in the area and may have damaged three residential mailboxes along the street.

Police also found that someone had thrown raw eggs onto the windshield of a vehicle there. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the criminal mischief to contact them at 426-5841 or 270-8888.

Washington Avenue

Police report that motorist Robert Miller, 58, of New Haven was driving a 1999 Ford pickup truck on Washington Avenue on the afternoon of January 25 which bore the marker plates that belonged on a 1981 International truck.

Police charged Miller with misuse of marker plates and with driving an unregistered vehicle. Miller is scheduled to appear in court February 5 to answer the charges.
