Go Red For Women
Go Red For Women
Women throughout Connecticut and the country, people from all walks of life, are being asked to âGo Red For Womenâ on Friday, February 6, the national âWear Red Day for Womenâ to raise awareness of the risks of heart attack and stroke.
The American Cancer Society is trying to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease, the number one killer of American women.
A woman is ten times as likely to die from heart disease as from breast cancer. More than 6,400 Connecticut women die each year from heart disease and stroke, while nationwide more than 505,000 women die from these cardiovascular diseases.
Heart disease and stroke claim more female lives each year than the next seven causes of death combined.
In Newtown, the Visiting Nurse Association is sponsoring the âGo Redâ event, with Mae Schmidle coordinating the day.
