Newtown 50, Westport 38 – Kevin Troy scored 22 points and played an outstanding overall game. Jason Smith and Greg Rodden combined for 14 points and Dylan Clarke led the team in rebounding

Westport 40, Newtown 38 – Newtown squandered a 12-point, fourth-quarter lead and missed a number of scoring opportunities in the second half. Dan Smith played a strong overall game, scoring seven points. Greg Larnerd rebounded well.

Newtown 60, Stamford 55 – Rebounding from a difficult loss, Newtown played a tremendous overall game against a very athletic Stamford team. Kevin Troy scored 19 and Mike Maher scored 12 points, hitting several key jumpers to give Newtown the lead late in the fourth quarter. Bob Lapple played well especially in the second half. Dan Smith, Greg Rodden, Jason Smith, Greg Lernard and Dylan Clarke all contributed with fine overall performance.

A last-second loss to the Westport YMCA marred what had been a strong week for the Newtown boys 7th-grade travel team, which put together a four-game winning streak. Here are all the results:

Westport Y 34, Newtown 32 – Newtown overcame a nine-point halftime deficit, but lost on a last-second shot. Connor Collier and Daniel Quinn combined for 22 points to lead Newtown, with John Grimaldi, Cole Depuy, David Bray, and Ricky Gallucci playing well.

Newtown 46, Westport PAL 34 – Newtown jumped out to an early 12-point lead, and coasted the rest of the way home for the win. Newtown had all nine players score on the evening, with David Bray, John Grimaldi, and Connor Collier combining for 26 points.

Newtown 36, New Canaan 33 – Cole Depuy, Dan Quinn, and Kurt Nacewicz combined for 25 points to lead Newtown. Keith McGrath, Ian Cooper, and David Bray played well.

Newtown 49, Fairfield Friars 30 – John Grimaldi, Dan Quinn, and Connor Collier combined for 36 points to lead Newtown scorers on the day. Cole Depuy, David Bray, and Ricky Gallucci had solid performances.

Newtown 45, St. Mary’s CYO 39 – John Grimaldi canned 10 points to lead Newtown. Kurt Nacewicz, David Bray, Connor Collier, Dan Quinn, Keith McGrath, Cole Depuy, and Ricky Gallucci also played well.

Monroe 60, Newtown 41 – Kurt Nacewicz and Keith McGrath combined for 20 points to lead all scorers on the day. Ian Cooper chipped in six points.

The Newtown girls 6th-grade travel team rallied from a 10-point deficit behind Sara Kelley (11 points) and Susan Mason (11 rebounds) to defeat Weston. Here are the results:

 

Newtown 29, Weston 24 – After falling behind 12-2 at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Hawks utilized their tenacious man-to-man defense to pull out a win over conference foe Weston. Sara Kelley scored 11 points while Jennifer Dailey chipped in five. Nicole Elias and Kailtlin Marsden each added four. Susan Mason pulled down 11 rebounds while Kate Bowen  had four assists to lead  Newtown to victory.

Darien 28, Newtown 16 – Sara Kelley netted 12 points while Kate Bowen and Jennifer Dailey chipped in a basket each to lead Newtown. Stephanie Suhoza, Ally Modzelewski and Kristen Tanner played well on defense while Carolyn Fagan was strong off the boards.

Josh Engler put together a double-double performance (10 points, 12 rebounds) to lead the Newtown boys 5th-grade travel team to a convincing win over New Canaan … the squad’s second win in three games. Here are all the results:

Middlebury 42, Newtown 25 – Andrew Oravecz and RJ Roman each scored six points as Max Nacewicz and Lewis Thompson combined for eight steals to lead Newtown. Dan White and Robert Carroll got tough on defense as Newtown struggled against a formidable opponent.

Newtown 39, Wilton 36 (OT) – Sean Maher scored 14 points, the last two on a putback with a minute left in overtime, to lead Newtown to the win. RJ Roman iced the game with a pair of free throws. Ishan Tatake had five key assists and scored seven points as Robert Frangione had an all around great game adding another seven points.

Newtown 37, New Canaan 29 – Josh Engler canned 10 points, dragged down 12 rebounds, and made five steals to power Newtown. Sean Maher and Dan White shut down New Canaan’s top scorer with relentless man-to-man defense. RJ Roman had 13 rebounds and added eight points as Rob Carroll had six points, three rebounds, and two steals.

Andrea Nazer dropped in a pair of free throws with five seconds left in regulation to lift the Newtown girls 5th-grade travel team to a narrow win over Westport. Here are the results:

 

Newtown 22, Westport 20 – Andrea Nazer sank a pair of free throws with five seconds left to lift Newtown to the win. Nazer and KellyAnne Brophy led all scorers with eight points apiece. Ali Pliszka and Cady Jackman combined for the other six points as Maggie Donohue dominated inside with several blocks and seven defensive rebounds.

New Castle 30, Newtown 11 – Ali Pliszka led the Newtown scorers with four points while Alex Grant, Maggie Donohue, Andrea Nazer and KellyAnne Brophy also scored to lead Newtown. Caroline Lawrence had a great defensive game.    

Weston 22, Newtown 18 – Despite trailing 9-0 early the Nighthawks hung tough and battled back to make this a close game. Andrea Nazer led all scorers with eight points. Maggie Donohue and KellyAnne Brophy had four apiece and Lauren Meyer added two. Meghan Loose and Maggie Donohue dominated the boards and combined for 11 rebounds while Mara Scallon and Lauren Meyer created havoc on defense, forcing multiple turnovers.

Tyler Tarantino scored 12 points and ripped down 20 rebounds to lead the Sonics against the Bulls in Junior Boys action. Here are all the results:

 

Nitro 46, Knicks 30 – Matt Brede scored 17 points and Zack Varga added 10 to lift the Nitro to the win. Danny Curtis, Adam Cantor and Dave Kopysinski played well. For the Knicks, Ian Doerr and Alex Magoulas popped in 11 points apiece while Ben Speigel and Christian Steimle anchored the defense.

Nitro 51, Yellow Submarines 48 (OT) – Zack Varga scored 14 points and Kyle Dinicola scored 12 while bringing down eight rebounds to lead the Nitro to the win. Matt Brede tossed in 10 points. For the Subs, Jacob Burg had 17 points and Jonathan Zigman added 11. Joel Minalgo and Josh Baron played well.

Huskies 52, Knicks 28 – Erik Dreher and Jared Modzelewski combined for 22 points to pace the Knicks. Nick Urson grabbed nine rebounds Dylan Kelleher made five steals. For the Knicks, Alex Magoulas popped in 12 points while John Aminti, Matt Hill and Alex Stevens all played well.

Timberwolves 36, Jazz 32 – Dan Giorno poured in 23 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to power the T-Wolves to the win. Ryan Wilson and Mike Whitley-Rodriguez combined for 13 points and 20 rebounds and Ryan Dilworth played well. For the Jazz, Andrew Meisel scored 14 points and Dan Lawrence grabbed 11 rebounds. Brendan Martin and Alex Bowen also played well.

Bullets 49, Sonics 33 – Conor Martin canned 21 points and Kyle McNamara pulled down 12 rebounds to lift the Bullets to the win. Steve Oberstadt (eight assists) and Nate Middeleer (five steals) played well. For the Sonics, Tyler Tarantino scored 12 points and ripped down 20 rebounds to lead the way. Will Mahony canned 13 points and Kevin McManus made seven steals.

Wildcats 62, Spurs 37 – Jake DeVellis popped in 19 points and Ryan Golankiewicz added 14 to lift the Wildcats to the win. Brett LeBlanc and Marty Basso played well. For the Spurs, Jason Kostecki canned 11 points as Zach Gordon and Max Muraskiewicz played well.

Timberwolves 53, 76ers 28 – Dan Girono poured in 23 points while Ryan Wilson had 10 points, 12 rebounds and six steals to lead the T-Wolves to the win. Mike Whitley-Rodriguez added eight points and five rebounds. For the Sixers, Nick Garafalo grabbed seven rebounds and AJ Ritchie played well.

Rockets 44, Lakers 39 – Colin Babbage canned 17 points and Mickey Fay tossed in eight to lead the Rockets past the Lakers. Peter Walsuk, Conor McManus and Ronald Swift played well. For the Lakers, Matt Mascolo poured in 22 points and Ryan Boucher grabbed 12 rebounds. Chris Marks made eight steals, Kevin Walsh dished off five assists and Ethan Johnson made his first basket of the season.

Kings 44, 76ers 41 – Chris Salvatore canned 15 points and Brett Mauro added 11 to lead the Kings to the win. Adam Schankman dished off three assists. For the Sixers, Tom Jackman popped in 10 points and Ed White added seven. Nick Landfair chipped in with five points and eight rebounds as AJ Ritchie was tough on D.

Jennifer Brill and Betsy Vendel scored 11 points apiece to lead the Nightmare past the Bulldogs in Junior Girls division action. Here are all the results:

Pacers 27, Huskies 17 – Lauren Picerno scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds and Renata Villarreal scored eight as well to lead the Pacers over the Huskies. Kathy Urfer led the strong defensive effort. For the Huskies, Kelley Sullivan and Behtany Morin combined to score 12 points. Ashley Davis, Veronica Parsloe, and Bryony Langdon played great on defense.

Lightning 19, Rockets 12 – Meghan Trosan scored six points and Ines Hutchinson grabbed six rebounds to lead the Lightning over the Rockets. Marnie Thompson and Katie Power were strong on defense. Olivia Dillon scored four points for the Rockets while Colleen Thornberg and Erin Nemeth had solid all around games.

Nightmare 37, Bulldogs 19 – Jennifer Brill and Betsy Vendel scored 11 points each and Taylor Ansbro contributed five steals in the win over the Bulldogs. Chynna Smith controlled the boards while pulling down seven rebounds. Joanna Barry canned 13 for the Bulldogs while Beenish Ansari, Kat Donahue, and Courtney Gleason had strong floor games.

Bulldogs 24, Blue Devils 16 – Joanna Barry led the Bulldogs with 11 points and Laura Newberry handed out seven assists in the win over the Blue Devils. Erin Fish was strong off the boards and Colleen Murphy had a great game on defense. Lauren Clark scored seven points, Rache Tayback dished out three assists, and Haley Keane had four steals to lead the Blue Devils.

Pacers 31, Nightmare 21 – Kathy Urfer scored eight points and Jacklyn Petrasanta and Jen Brewer chipped in with six each to lead the Pacers over the Nightmare. Natalie Villa led the defense and grabbed seven rebounds. Jennifer Brill scored 13 points to lead the Nightmare while Taylor Ansbro and Megan Sajovic grabbed seven rebounds each and Genna Scheurell had a fine all around game.

Pacers 27, Blue Devils 20 – Jen Brewer scored eight points as Marissa Bobkowski and Sarah Peck combined to score 12 to lead the Pacers. Ashley Braun contributed four steals and Lauren Picerno grabbed five rebounds. Lauren Clark scored 10 points to lead the Blue Devils with Claire Ober adding six points, five rebounds and an assist. Caitlin Britton, Zoe Rabinowitz, and Rachel Taback turned in excellent games.

Lightning 38, Huskies 20 – Meghan Trosan scored 16 points and Keegan Frobey handed out five assists to lead the Lightning over the Huskies. Stephanie Soder had a great game on defense. Kelley Sullivan scored nine points for the Huskies, Jen Spanedda dished off three assists, and Behtany Morin was strong off the boards. Ashley Davis and Jenny Durelli played well on defense.

Bulldogs 30, Rockets 14 – Joanna Barry scored nine and Laura Newberry chipped in with six to lead the Bulldogs over the Rockets. Kat Donahue played solid defense, Nicole Butler grabbed four rebounds, and Colleen Murphy and Beenish Ansari played good all around games. Belle Hydock led the Rockets with eight points while Colleen Thornberg added four. Ashlet Rothaker had a solid game on defense while Rachel Marlin and Rachel Fossum played great all around games.

John Fracker and Thomas Coscia hit key free throws to lead the Gators past the Nets in Intermediate Boys action. Here are all the results:

 

Gators 26, Nets 23 – John Fracker scored 11 points (four of those from the free throw line late in the game) to lead the Gators to the win. Kevin Dill played well as Thomas Coscia also added a pair of clutch free throws. For the Nets, Joe Fedak scored seven points.

Sonics 30, Lakers 14 – Tucker Schmidt canned nine points and Mitch Udisky dished off five assists to lead the Sonics to the win. Scott Boisvert made three steals. For the Lakers, Ryan Korth grabbed 11 rebounds as Tim Dalton, Scott Wexler and Kyle McCarthy played well.

Screaming Eagles 38, Grizzlies 24 – Ryan Powers scored 12 points as the Eagles soared to the win. Matt Hoffman, Jeff Brown and Ryan Daly had solid performances. For the Grizzlies, Zack Dent grabbed 10 rebounds, Jeff Spencer had seven assists, and Matt Datin made five steals.

Sonics 33, Celtics 14 – Ben Mahony canned eight points and Alex Miller grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Sonics to the win. Thomas Murphy made four steals. For the Celtics, Colby Summerlin scored eight points as Tony Vacaro and Brad Biscoe played well.

Gators 33, Grizzlies 12 – John Fracker and Alex Saviano combined for 18 points to lift the Gators to the win. Kevin Dill and Caleb Benore played well. For the Grizzlies, Ryan Powers scored seven points while Josh Volpe, Andrew Murphy and Spencer Williams had solid performnances.

Screaming Eagles 33, Nighthawks 32 (OT) – Robbie Phillips canned a last-second shot to send the game into overtime and led the winning effort with 12 points. Zack Dent grabbed 10 rebounds. For the ‘Hawks, Steve Braun and Jamey Tibbetts canned 10 points apiece while Eric Thornberg tossed in eight. Austin Jones played solid D.

Brittany Wiberg had a couple of big games (scoring 16 points in one and 11 in the other) to lead the Huskies to a pair of recent wins in the Intermediate Girls division. Here are the results:

 

Liberty 24, Bulls 11 – Meghan Bridges and Brady Eggleston scored six points apiece to lead the Liberty to the win. Christina Naldini added four points and five rebounds as Emma Fiore and Lyndsay Burns played well. For the Bulls, Chelsea Gray, Nicole Escoa, Meghan Wilson and Kaley Krueger had good games.

Gaels 25, Shamrocks 14 – Michelle Rahtelli scored 12 points and Meredith LaPerch tossed in eight to lead the Gaels. Danielle Rubino contributed three points. For the Shamrocks, Annie Fletcher scored eight points as Emily Rowe, Lisa Vendel and Katie Laso all played well.

Huskies 28, Gaels 12 – Brittany Wiberg scored 16 points and Ellen Ritzinger tossed in eight to lead the Huskies past the Gaels. Sam Whitley, Sara Connor and Jillian Jagoe had outstanding games. For the Gaels, Michelle Rahtelli popped in eight points as Jamie Keating, Kathleen Cummings and Jenna Bonaccorso had solid performances.

Liberty 18, Suns 12 – Emma Fiore popped in four points and Jillian Thompson made three steals to lead the Liberty to the win. Morgan Schick played well. For the Suns, Katie Pessin canned four points while Amanda Swift, Lauren Powers, and Victoria Picerno had solid floor games.

Liberty 32, Shamrocks 12 – Brady Eddleston and Meghan Bridges scored eight points apiece to lift the Liberty past the ‘Rocks. Katherine Scott and Lainey Audet also played well. For the ‘Rocks, Meghan Gibbons popped in four points and Emily Rowe dished off three assists. Lisa Vendel anchored the defense.

Gaels 20, Comets 12 – Meredith LaPerch poured in 10 points and Michelle Rahtelli added five to lead the Gaels to the win. Danielle Rubino made four steals while Kathleen Cummings played well. For the Comets, Samantha Lockhart popped in eight points as Margaret Kearney (four assists), Michael Margait (three steals) and Lila Kohrman-Glaser had strong floor games.

Huskies 25, Bulls 15 – Brittany Wiberg canned 11 points to lead the Huskies. Nicole Gindraux, Sara Connor and Scarlett O’Sullivan anchored a tough defense. For the Bulls, Michele Davies popped in eight points as Jessica Fossum (four assists), Nicole Polier (five steals) and Chelsea Gray (four rebounds) played well.

There was plenty of action to catch up on (two weeks worth) in the Midget Boys division. Here are all the results:

 

Orangemen versus Vipers – Devin DiNicola, Marcus Toms, David Lucia and Tanner Sowa played well for the Orangemen as Joe Davis, Gary Braun, Jonathan Vaughn and Travis Szalay powered the Vipers.

Cardinals versus Vipers – Ricky Kerins, Johnny Kerins, Ryan O’Keefe and Ryan Coe had solid games for the Cards as Chris Erikson, Mason Page, Jeffrey Grasso and Jack McManus anchored the Vipers.

Cardinals versus 76ers – Jordan Buyers, Nick Gerbo, Nick Shannon and Andrew Volkers played well for the Cardinals as Tyler Gibney, Ryan Crowell, David Cartisano and Kevin Dennis powered the Sixers.

Cardinals versus Bulldogs – Cameron McCleary, Ricky Kerins, Jimmy Russo and Ryan Coe played well for the Cards as Alex Strzelecki, William Miller and Sean Ross had fine floor games for the ‘Dogs.

Raptors versus Cougars – Don Morrissey, Sam Hill, Robbie Hughes and Alex LaCroce played well for the Raptors as Rich Sandler, Domenick Fedak, Patrick Sullivan and Christian Mather played well for the Cougars.

Hurricanes versus Bulldogs – Wyatt Depuy, Michael Scharfenberg, Charlie Pryor and Michael Greenwood had fine performances for the ‘Canes as Mike LoBosco, Justin DeVellis, Matthew Ryan and William Miller anchored the ‘Dogs.

Bulldogs versus Thundercats – Scott Keating, Kevin LeBlanc, Tommy Stewart, and Fredrik Dean powered the ‘Dogs as Jake Feinstein, Pieter Martino, Rob Uhe and Griffin Paynter played well for the ‘Cats.

Dragons versus Cougars – Christian Sayegh, Scott Keating, Ivan Hutchison and Brian LeBlanc played well for the Dragons as Neal Davis, Davie Tortora, Patrick Sullivan and Kaleb Rowe played well for the Cougars.

Lakers versus Cougars – Eric Song, Brendan Callery, Brandon Marks and Kyle Wilcox had superb performances for the Lakers as Rich Sandler, Stephen Conway, and Neil Davis played well for the Cougars.

Gators versus Rockets – Matt Vavrek, Dan Gallagher, Brennan Merrick and Ben Stoller had fine floor games for the Gators as Tom Johnston, Luke Piazza, Luke Sherwood and Sean Elliott played well for the Rockets.

Rockets versus Blue Devils – Greg Horne, Justin Cherry, Luke Sherwood and Tom Bauer anchored the Rockets while Connor Blanc, Patrick Mullins, Sam Langdon and Mac Morlock played well for the Devils.

Lakers versus Nighthawks – Harrison Snellback, Kyle Wilcox, KC Condon and Matt Shannon played well for the Lakers as Mike Rentzel, Kory Kling, Pat Haggerty and Chris Devaney powered the ‘Hawks.

Thundercats versus Gators – Pieter Martino, Rob Uhde, Evan Wexler and Tyler Coleman anchored the ‘Cats as Sam Ashey, Kyle Harrington, Matt Bolinsky and Charlie Helgren played well for the Gators.

Wizards versus Dragons – David Gerics, Taylor Steimle, Anders Fogelburg and Sean Watkins played well for the Wizards while Mason West, Brian LeBlanc, Kevin LeBlanc and Christian Sayegh powered the Dragons.

Nighthawks versus Wizards – Justin Spath, Dean Demers, Kevin Shpunt and Evan Swain performed well for the ‘Hawks as David Gerics, Cavan McCaffery, Peter Kerns and Danny Bittman played well for the Wizards.

Vipers versys Blue Devils – Joe Davis, Jeffrey Grasso, Chris Erikson and Scott Runkle anchored the Vipers as Chad Magoulas, Tomas Nazer, Patrick Thornberg and Nicky Sajovic led the Devils.

Orangemen versus Hurricanes – Yossi Glaser, Josh Barrett, Kevin Phillips and Rob Daiole played well for the Orangemen as Matthew Spencer, Michael Dawburt and Dillon Kelly led the ‘Canes.

76ers versus Raptors – Tyler Gibney, Robert Andreoota, Ryan Crowell and Ryan Seymour led the Sixers as the Raptors were anchored by Colin Cooper, Sam Hill, Dan Gustafson and Harrison Buzz.

It was the Mustangs versus the Huskies, the Celtics versus the Huskies, and the Knicks versus a team whose name is a mystery in recent Midget Girls action. Here are the results:

 

Mustangs versus Huskies – Tess Kneisel, Megan O’Connell, Morgan Cutolo and Meredith Bridges played well for the Mustangs as Katie Fossum, Rachel Wiberg, Mikaela McGuire and Erin Bell played well for the Huskies.

Celtics versus Huskies – Claire Miles, Stephanie Clavette and Abby Doski played well for the Celtics as Tressa Scott, Kendall Svanda, Sarah Read and Emily Nascewicz led the Huskies.

Knicks versus No Names – Samantha Steimle, Morgan Hopper, Kristiana Engler and Nicole Rotante powered the Knicks as Taylor Brady, Bridgette Power, Julie LaPerch and Riley Wurtz anchored the No Names.
