Thanks To The Salvation

Army Volunteers

To the Editor:

Our annual “thank you” letter to all who participated in the Salvation Army Kettle Brigade is very sincere in the appreciation we feel for all our volunteers! They came forth so quickly and enthusiastically that both Sylvia and myself were very impressed and pleased — made our “job” easier. Once again, we had a waiting list to draw upon! Thank you to The Newtown Bee for all their advertising on behalf of our efforts.

Our gratitude to Dunkin Donuts, Stop & Shop, Lexington Gardens, CVS, Pizza Palace, Bagel Delite and Yankee Discount Wine & Liquor for allowing us to stand in front of their establishment for the two weekends.

Our sincerest appreciation goes out to the following bellringers: One Hour: Lions Club members, Gordon (and Lina) Williams, George Smiley, Doug Body, Bill Denlinger, Tom Evagash, Kent Carpenter, Jerry Cole, John Christenson, Doug Russell, Dick Kovacs, and Don Ferris; Glenna and Ed Rees, Sally and Bill O’Neil, Jane and Joe Bojnowski, Bob and Sylvia Poulin, Don Sharpe, Men’s Literary and Social Club members Bob Hall, Don (and Marg) Studley, Bill Brimmer, Dan Cruson, Jim Morley, John (and Kathy) Madzula, Joe Humeston, Richard Miller, John (and Chris) Reed; Barbara and Ken Bigham, Barbara, Bill, Mallory and Michael Webb, Joe Borst, Bob Mulholland, June McGroary, Marie Smith, Bill Timmel, Paul Lux, Michelle and Herb Rosenthal. Also, Joan, Sarah and Kristine Salbu, Hugh Findlay, Barbara O’Connor, Chuck Newman, Elin and Mairin Hayes, Chuck Leety, Lauren and Samantha Cody, Allan and Patty Graves, Jean Rau, Barbara and Dennis Bloom, Kathy and Christopher Martin, Al and Coke Cramer, Helen Wahlstrom, Pat Bailey, Patty and Janine Dubois, Eda Sherman, Fred Ravetto, Kevin Corey, Theresa Cruz and Justin, Amy Dent, Evie and Bill Watts, Mimi Malkin, Bob and Carolyn Stokes, Betsy Slaney, Judith Coffey, Lee David, St Rose CCD with Lisa Rodden, Greg Rodden, Dan Smith, Jason Smith, and Mike Maher.

Two Hours: Lion’s Club members Paul Arneth, Gordon (and Betty) Mounts; John Cochran, Jack O’Byrne, John Klopfenstein, Laurie Wrable, Alan Martin, Harry and Stephanie Coster, Owen, Sue, Michael and Lauren Carney, and Jack Geason.

Three Hours: We especially want to thank Ingrid Bergquist who rang bells for three hours and said she enjoyed every minute of it!

We cannot forget to thank Taunton Press and its employees for their generous donation of $1,000. Others who generously gave to this cause are Joyce and Aubrey DeWolfe, Carolyn and Bill Downing, John O’Byrne and Union Savings Bank.

We could not have done all of this scheduling, putting out and taking in of the kettles and being wherever we needed to be without the untiring help of our husbands, Bob Poulin and Dick Sturdevant. Thank you!

These efforts realized the amount of $7,156.78 — just $16.97 less than last year. Great going Newtown. Knowing these funds remain 90 percent in the community only makes our gratitude to those above mentioned even more meaningful. To all of you who donated to the Salvation Army with your time, dollars, checks, and coins we thank you. Maybe next year we should have more kettles around town!

Very sincerely,

Sylvia Poulin

Marie Sturdevant
