Intersection Crash

A two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Trades Lane about 9:30 am on January 29, police said.

John Donaldson, 75, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2002 Ford van owned by the Education Connection of Litchfield, was waiting at a traffic signal at the intersection, when the van was struck from behind by motorist Sharon Cohen, 63, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2008 Saab 9-3 sedan, police said.

The van carried one 15-year-old passenger, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Cohen a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

NHS Assault

Police report that early on the afternoon of January 27, they arrested a male Newtown High School student who is under age 18 on charge of third-degree assault following an investigation into an altercation which involved the arrested student and another student. State law shields the identities of people under age 18 who are charged with crimes.

After arrest processing, police released the youth on a written promise to appear in court on February 8.
