What Would Mary Hawley Do?
What Would Mary Hawley Do?
To the Editor:
As discussions continue regarding the reuse of Fairfield Hills, it seems that our Edmond Town Hall is largely ignored. This beautiful building in the center of our town begs to be part of a Comprehensive Town Plan. A number of suggestions for its use have been voiced.
Keep some town offices; move some to FFH to relieve overcrowding.
Keep the movie theater; rent out other spaces.
Rent space for professional offices â economic development tax revenue.
Provide space for town community use such as town historian, Visiting Nurse Association, Salvation Army, Women Involved in Newtown, FAITH Food Pantry, Ability Beyond Disability, and Habitat for Humanity, etc.
Move the movies; renovate as a Cultural Arts Center.
It was surprising to see that the Planning and Zoning Commission was recently asked to allow a cinema/movie complex at FFH as part of the FFH Master Plan rezoning request (Proposed Amendment to the Zoning Regulations, page 2 Permitted Uses [12].), since at no time during the FFH master plan discussion was this mentioned.
So, what would Mary Hawley do? She would want to do what is best for Newtown. That is our challenge today â how best to utilize this beautiful facility in the center of our town.
