Impala Vs Deer

About 10:07 pm January 23, motorist Alfred F. Anzalone, Jr, 47, of Monroe was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Impala sedan eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, near its intersection with Hawleyville Road, when a deer ran out onto the street, resulting in a collision between the auto and the animal, police report.

Anzalone was not injured in the crash. Police took no enforcement.

Icy Roadway

Police report that at about 8:03 am January 29, motorist Jamie Peterson, 41, of 23 Hundred Acres Road, who was driving a 2006 Honda Pilot SUV eastward on Boggs Hill Road, near its intersection with Hattertown Road, stopped the Honda due to the presence of a stopped noncontact vehicle on the right road shoulder.

Eastbound motorist Gretchen Olsen, 43, of New Milford, who was driving a 2003 Dodge Neon sedan, attempted to stop, but the Dodge slid on the icy road, striking the rear end of the Honda, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said they took no enforcement.

SUV Vs SUV

An accident involving two sport-utility vehicles occurred about 8:53 am January 29 at the intersection of High Rock Road and Berkshire Road.

Motorist Carolyn Fagan, 16, of 113 High Rock Road, who was driving a 2002 Infiniti QX-4 SUV northward on High Rock Road, stopped at a stop sign at the intersection, police said.

Motorist Elizabeth Guerrera, 34, of 13 New Lebbon Road, who was driving a 2007 Honda Pilot SUV northward on High Rock Road, then braked and swerved, but slid on the icy roadway and struck the rear end of the Infiniti, police said.

There were no injuries. Guerrera received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

Rear-Ender

About 12:27 pm on January 29, motorist Martin Feinbergh, 82, of 87 Suzie Drive, who was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox SUV eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, used his turn signal and stopped in preparing to turn left to enter the driveway for the Liberty at Newtown condominium complex, police said.

Motorist Joaquin Neto, 53, of Danbury, who was driving a 1997 Dodge Ram pickup truck eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, attempted to stop, but could not and then struck the rear end of the Chevrolet, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Neto for following too closely.

DUI Incident

Police said they received a formal complaint about how a sport-utility vehicle was being driven on Main Street about 4 pm February 1, so they investigated.

Police said they found the 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV in question parked along Main Street and they approached its driver. Police said that after investigating, they charged motorist Harvest Murphy, 49, of Bridgeport with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right on a curve, and failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Police processed the arrest and released Murphy on $100 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on February 13.

Insurance Charge

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Joel Guth, 28, of Oxford, turned himself over to police on the morning of February 1, and was charged with failure to have automotive insurance, police report.

The charge stems from a motor vehicle accident that occurred last November 21, police said. Police released Guth on a written promise to appear February 11 in Danbury Superior Court.

Drug Arrest

Police report they stopped a vehicle on Church Hill Road after spotting its young driver traveling northward on Queen Street while using a handheld cellphone at about 4:28 pm January 31.

Police said that as they approached the vehicle, they detected the odor of burning marijuana coming from within it.

On investigating, police learned that the auto contained an amount of marijuana, individual packets of marijuana packaged for sale, and some drug paraphernalia.

Police then arrested the driver on charges of possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, and with driving a motor vehicle while illegally using a handheld cellphone while under age 18.

Following arrest processing, police released the youth on a written promise to appear February 13 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court. State law shields the identities of people under age 18 who are charged with crimes.

Larceny/Forgery

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Michael Castagna, 37, of Trumbull turned himself in at the police station on the evening of January 29, and was arrested on charges of fourth-degree larceny and third-degree forgery, police said.

Police said the arrest stems from a complaint which they received last October 7, involving Castagna’s alleged theft of a blank check and its illegal use.

Police released Castagna on $5,000 bail for a February 11 court appearance.

Road Sign

Police report that motorist Kenneth Seferi, 27, of 20 Meadow Brook Road was driving a 2006 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck westward near 172 Mt Pleasant Road about 7:45 am January 29, when the vehicle went out of control, spun around and then struck a road sign on the right road shoulder.

Seferi was not injured, police said. He received a verbal warning for making a restricted turn, according to police.

Alcohol

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Robert Buccozzi, 19, of Southbury turned himself over to police on the afternoon of January 31, and was charged with failure to respond to an infraction stemming from an original charge of illegal possession of alcohol by a minor.

Police said that they released Buccozzi on $136 bail for a February 13 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

The $136 amount is the fine that is levied for that alcohol infraction. However, because Buccozzi did not respond to that infraction, police sought and received a warrant for his arrest and subsequent court appearance.

The original charge stems from an incident that occurred last July 19 at a Taunton Lake Road property, police said.

BMW Vs Deer

Motorist Richard Varnum, 44, of 33 Ashford Lane was driving a 2007 BMW 530-XI sedan eastward on Sugar Street about 5:52 pm January 30, when a deer ran out onto the street and collided with the auto, police said. Varnum was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Mazda Vs Honda

About 7:05 am January 30, motorist Gary Pearson, 57, of 56 Elm Drive was driving a 1999 Mazda 626 sedan northward on Main Street, as motorist Kristin Roberts, 36 of 6 Whippoorwill Hill Road was driving 2003 Honda Odyssey minivan southward there, police report.

The Mazda then attempted to make a left turn to enter the driveway at 39 Main Street, but collided with the Honda, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Pearson a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Icy Conditions

Motorist Mary Daly, 28, of 21 Mt Nebo Road was driving a 2005 Ford Focus sedan on Boggs Hill Road, near Shepard Hill Road, about 3:40 pm January 28, when due to icy conditions, the vehicle went out of control on a curve and struck two curbside mailboxes and stone wall, police said.

Daly was not injured. Police verbally warned her for traveling too fast for conditions.

South Main Crash

About 3:40 pm January 29, motorist Robert Comfort, 65, of Milford, who was driving a 2007 Honda Civic sedan northward near 151 South Main Street, came to an abrupt stop because the noncontact vehicle which was traveling in front of him had come to a sudden stop, police said.

Northbound motorist David Graham, 19, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2003 Saturn Vue SUV, then braked and veered to the right, but struck the rear end of the Honda, police said.

There were no injuries. Police gave Graham a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

DUI Arrest

In response to a complaint that they received about 10 pm February 1, police went to Sandy Hook to find a motorist who reportedly was driving erratically.

Police said they saw motorist Natalie Saldamarco, 38, of Seymour, who was traveling eastward on Wasserman Way, turn right onto Berkshire Road and commit three different travel lane violations.

Police said they stopped Saldamarco to investigate, after which they charged her with driving under the influence and with three different travel lane violations.

Police released Saldamarco from custody on $100 bail for a February 13 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Joshua Philippi, 24, of 42 Swamp Road turned himself in at the police station on the afternoon of February 2, police report.

Police said they charged Philippi with first-degree failure to appear in court stemming from original charges of possession of narcotics, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said the original drug charges stemmed from a nighttime incident last July 3 behind Ricky’s Shopping Center at 71 South Main Street. In that incident, police said they had their German shepherd sniff Philippi’s vehicle and the dog located drugs and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.

On February 2, police released Phillipi on $2,000 bail for a February 13 court appearance.

Hazardous Intersection

A collision involving a convertible and a sport-utility vehicle occurred at the hazardous intersection of Queen Street and Glover Avenue about 1:43 pm February 1.

Motorist Sanford Cooper, 60, of Easton was driving a 1984 Pontiac J-2000 convertible eastward on Glover Avenue, as motorist Patrick Shelvin, 50, of 2 Founders Lane was driving a 2006 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV southward on Queen Street, according to police. The Pontiac then pulled forward past a stop sign on Glover Avenue and entered the intersection, colliding with the Mitsubishi, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Cooper a written warning for failure to obey a stop sign.

Sandy Hook Collision

Police report that on February 1, motorist Alyssa Tiberio, 20, of Shelton, who was driving a 2007 Volvo S-40 sedan, struck the rear end of a 2004 Ford Escape SUV driven by William Rihn, 24, of Monroe, which was waiting at a red traffic signal at the intersection of Wasserman Way and the Exit 11 ramps of Interstate 84.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Tiberio for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Rear-Ender

A two-vehicle collision occurred near 21 South Main Street about 3:20 pm February 1.

Motorist Christopher Thornberg, 44, of 16 Birch Rise Drive, who was driving a 1996 Subaru Legacy station wagon northward on South Main Street, stopped in order to make a left turn onto Hawley Road, police said.

Northbound motorist Timothy Dubee, 51, of 7 Deerfield Drive, who was driving a 1991 Chevrolet Sportvan, then struck the Subaru from behind, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Dubee a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

 Threatening

Police report they investigated a complaint at Newtown Middle School on the morning of February 3 and then arrested a 14-year-old male student there on a charge of second-degree threatening, after that student had allegedly made a threat against another male student while at school.

After processing the arrest, police released the arrested boy on a written promise to appear in Danbury Juvenile Court on February 23, police said.

School Resource Officer Leonard Penna investigated the complaint.

State law shields the identities of people under age 18 who are charged with crimes.

Burglaries

Police are investigating two residential burglaries that occurred in southwest Newtown during the past week.

Police learned on the night of January 31 of a burglary that had occurred at a Storm Ridge Road home. Storm Ridge Road is a dead-end street in the Poverty Hollow area.

Also, police learned on the night of February 1 of a burglary that had occurred at a Castle Meadow Road home. Castle Meadow Road connects Hattertown Road to Brushy Hill Road.

People with information on the crimes are asked to contact police at 426-5841.

SUV Vs Truck

Police report a two-vehicle accident involving a SUV and a garbage truck about 12:04 pm February 3 on South Main Street in Botsford.

Motorist Paul Potucek, 76, of Shelton was driving a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee southward in the left southbound lane near 271 South Main Street, police said.

At that time, motorist Scott Vatell, 46, of 123 Brushy Hill Road was driving a 2006 GMC W-5500 garbage truck southward in the right southbound lane, police said.

The Jeep then made a lane change and collided with the garbage truck, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Potucek a written warning for failure to drive in the proper lane.
