Acrylic Still Life Demo At Next SCAN Meeting

The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Charles Ray of Redding painting in acrylic at its next meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, February 24, at 1:30 pm. His subject will be still life.

The program will take place in the lower level at Newtown Meeting Hose, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). The public is invited, free of charge.

Mr Ray’s current work focuses on images in nature painted primarily on site in the Northeast – landscapes of serene clouds, rolling shadowed hills or bodies of water. Themes include sunrises and sunsets. He derives energy from the sunrise, getting a new start every day. Prior to his shift to landscape, his paintings were created in the studio and were mostly figurative or still life.

Charles Ray retired a few years ago as the director at Silvermine School of the Arts in New Canaan, a position he held since 1993. In addition he taught painting and drawing at Silvermine School for many years and is a Silvermine Guild Artist member. Mr Ray graduated from Hartford Art School and studied at Yale School of Art.

Charles Ray has had numerous one-person shows and has been in group and museum shows throughout Connecticut, New York and neighboring states. In addition he has been commissioned for many corporate and private portraits. Presently he is teaching at Rowayton Art Center and in addition has private students.

Reservations are not necessary for SCAN programs, but additional information is available by contacting Ruth Newquist at 203-426-6654.
