School Truck

At about 11:45 am on February 5, some unknown motorist traveling in the parking lot at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street damaged an unoccupied parked truck that is owned by the town school system, police said.

The truck received a dent and some scrape marks on its left side. Based on evidence, it appears that the vehicle that damaged the truck has a white paint color, police said. The motorist driving the vehicle that hit the truck left the scene without reporting the collision, police said.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the offending driver’s identity to contact Officer Felicia Figol at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Hawleyville Impact

About 4:30 pm on February 8, motorist Chaitali Bhavsar, 31, of New Milford, who was driving a 2007 Dodge Caravan minivan southward on Hawleyville Road, stopped at a red traffic signal at its intersection with Mt Pleasant Road, police said.

Southbound motorist James Poe, 19, of 145 Mt Pleasant Road, who was driving a 2000 GMC Jimmy SUV southward, then struck the rear end of the Dodge, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Poe a written warning for following too closely.

Beagle Struck

Police report that motorist Cynthia Richter, 52, of Monroe, who was driving a 2005 Subaru Legacy sedan near 308 South Main Street about 11:30 am on February 7, contacted them because she believed the Subaru had struck some type of object on the roadway near the Botsford Firehouse.

Police said they then received other calls reporting that a beagle had been struck on the road there.

Botsford fire company members then attended to that dog, which died following the collision, police said. Richter was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Police said the male beagle had neither a collar, nor any identification tags.
