Slippery Conditions

Police report a two-vehicle accident on a snow-covered Bear Hills Road in Botsford at about 8:44 am on January 28.

Motorist Nicholas Magoulas, 77, of Monroe, who was driving a 2005 Buick Century sedan, was traveling westward and was attempting to climb a steep grade, when he lost control of the Buick and collided with an eastbound motor vehicle driven Elizabeth Frassinelli, 44, of 58 Bear Hills Road, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they took no enforcement due to the hazardous weather conditions.

Cedar Hill Road

Motorist Samuel Norcross, 17, of 7 Joan Drive was driving a 1996 Volvo 850 station wagon northward on Cedar Hill Road about 8:13 am on February 3, when while negotiating a curve on the snowy road, the Volvo went off the right road shoulder and struck a tree, police report.

Norcross was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Ford Vs Deer

At about 6:35 am January 27, motorist Robert Sonnenstuhl, 32, of Oxford was driving a 1999 Ford westward near 24 Sugar Street, when a deer ran onto the road and collided with the Ford, police said. Sonnenstuhl was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Town Car

On January 22, motorist Wendy Leon-Gambetta, of 18 Sawmill Ridge Road, who was driving a 2010 Toyota Highlander SUV northward on Washington Avenue, slowed and then stopped in preparing to turn left onto westbound Church Hill Road, police said.

 Northbound motorist Duane Dickerson, 75, of 129 Toddy Hill Road, who was driving a 1998 Lincoln Town Car sedan, then slowed, but struck the rear end of the Toyota, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Dickerson a written warning for following too closely.

Warrant

Newtown police report that Bethel police stopped motorist Deirdre Walsh, 41, of 2 Old Town Road, Newtown, for an alleged motor vehicle violation in Bethel on the night of February 7, after which Bethel police learned that Newtown police held an arrest warrant against Walsh in connection with an incident that occurred last November 5 at the Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street.

Newtown police said they then charged Walsh with sixth-degree larceny, after which they released her on a written promise to appear February 23 in Danbury Superior Court.

Mt Pleasant Road

About 8:50 pm February 2, motorist Charles Cox, 52, of 7 Bristle Lane was driving a 2006 Toyota Solara eastward near 14 Mt Pleasant Road, when a deer entered the road, resulting in a collision with the auto, police said.

The deer continued traveling following that impact, police said. Cox was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Mazda Into Rails

State police report that motorist Frederick Dirga, 36, of 127 Currituck Road, who was driving a 2000 Mazda Protégé eastward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, about 4:30 am February 6, when the vehicle struck some metal-beam guardrailing along the right road shoulder.

Dirga was not injured. State police said the incident is under investigation.

Falling Ice

At about 2 pm February 4, motorist Jonathan Fullbright, 35, of Terryville was driving a commercial Ford pickup truck westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, when a piece of ice fell off the top of an unknown tractor-trailer truck and struck the windshield of the Ford, damaging it, state police said.

Fullbright was not injured.

Honda Vs Pontiac

About 7:48 am February 4, motorist Denise Hames, 44, of Seymour, who was driving a 2006 Pontiac Torrent SUV westward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by westbound motorist Jeremiah Brown, 25, of Middlebury, who was driving a 2009 Honda Accord, state police said.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Snowy Road

Motorist Antonio Silva, 36, of Danbury was driving a commercial 1999 Dodge Stratus sedan eastward on a snow-covered Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, about 7:37 am February 3, when while traveling too fast, he skidded, lost control of the vehicle and went into a spin, striking guardcabling along the right road shoulder, state police said.

Silva was not injured. State police issued Silva an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions and for driving without a license.

School Truck

At about 11:45 am on February 5, some unknown motorist traveling in the parking lot at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street damaged an unoccupied parked truck that is owned by the town school system, police said.

The truck received a dent and some scrape marks on its left side. Based on evidence, it appears that the vehicle that damaged the truck has a white paint color, police said. The motorist driving the vehicle that hit the truck left the scene without reporting the collision, police said.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the offending driver’s identity to contact Officer Felicia Figol at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Hawleyville Impact

About 4:30 pm on February 8, motorist Chaitali Bhavsar, 31, of New Milford, who was driving a 2007 Dodge Caravan minivan southward on Hawleyville Road, stopped at a red traffic signal at its intersection with Mt Pleasant Road, police said.

Southbound motorist James Poe, 19, of 145 Mt Pleasant Road, who was driving a 2000 GMC Jimmy SUV southward, then struck the rear end of the Dodge, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Poe a written warning for following too closely.

Beagle Struck

Police report that motorist Cynthia Richter, 52, of Monroe, who was driving a 2005 Subaru Legacy sedan near 308 South Main Street about 11:30 am on February 7, contacted them because she believed the Subaru had struck some type of object on the roadway near the Botsford Firehouse.

Police said they then received other calls reporting that a beagle had been struck on the road there.

Botsford fire company members then attended to that dog, which died following the collision, police said. Richter was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Police said the male beagle had neither a collar, nor any identification tags.

The dog’s owner should contact investigating police Officer Dana Schubert at the police station at 203-426-5841.

DUI Charge

Police report that at about 11 pm on February 5, they spotted motorist Nathaniel Greenfield, 29, of 29 Parmalee Hill Road driving erratically on Sugar Street (Route 302), so they stopped him to investigate.

Police said they charged Greenfield with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.

Following processing, police released Greenfield from custody on $400 bail for a February 19 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Sedan Vs Bridge

Motorist Lucyaurea Araujo DeSouza, 28, of Danbury was driving a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant sedan eastward on Botsford Hill Road about 8:10 pm February 10, when the vehicle went out of control in adverse weather conditions and then went off the right side of the road, police said.

The vehicle struck an earthen embankment and then hit the concrete structure of the Housatonic Railroad’s railroad bridge, police said. Botsford firefighters responded to the scene.

DeSouza, and passengers Moises Araujo, 24, and Walter Almeida, 20, both of Danbury, all were transported by Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps staffers to Danbury Hospital, police said.

The accident is under investigation.

Crabapple Lane

Police said they arrested Jason LaMonte, whose age they listed as 19, of 67 Osborn Hill Road in connection with an incident that occurred about 6:19 pm on February 10 on Crabapple Lane.

Police said LaMonte allegedly brandished a knife to a juvenile during an altercation there. Police charged LaMonte with breach of peace, threatening, and risk of injury to a minor.

After processing, police released LaMonte on a written promise to appear February 24 in Danbury Superior Court.

Obtuse Road

Motorist Jorge W. Gonzalez-Araujo, 48, of Danbury, who was driving a 1996 Mazda Protégé sedan northward near 8 Obtuse Road about 4:23 am February 11, skidded on the snowy roadway, struck a mailbox and then hit a guy wire that was supporting a utility pole, police said.

The collision resulted in an electric service line for a nearby house falling onto the street, police said. Gonzalez-Araujo was not injured. Hawleyville firefighters responded to the accident.

Police issued Gonzalez-Araujo an infraction ticket for traveling too fast for conditions and for driving without a license.

Sandy Hook Accident

About 5:47 pm February 2, motorist Laura Miller, 41, of Osborn Hill Road, who was driving a 1998 Lexus sedan eastward near a traffic signal near 33 Berkshire Road (Route 34), struck the rear end of an eastbound 2002 Toyota coupe driven by Angel Muniz, 25, of Monroe, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Miller a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
