Shirley S. Alrutz

Shirley S. Alrutz, 68, of Marietta, Ohio, died on February 8 at her home. She was born September 18, 1935, in Schenectady, N.Y., to Russell and Louise Roth Smith.

Ms Alrutz had been owner and operator of The Toy Corner in Newtown for seven years. Prior to that, she had been the office manager at the Newtown Chiropractic Health Center. She was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church in Marietta, Ohio. She had also been a volunteer at Eve, Inc. She enjoyed playing with her grandchildren and traveling.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Alrutz, whom she married on December 27, 1958; two daughters, Cheryl Koelsch and her friend Jon Covington of Marietta, Ohio, and Lori Barlow and her husband Marc of Fredericksburg, Va.; one son, Mark Alrutz and his wife Jenny, of Hickory, N.C.; 11 grandchildren, Peter and Cari Koelsch, Alexandria Covington, D.J., Deanna, Joshua, Hannalee, Kathleen, and Julianna Alrutz, Steven and Christopher Barlow; one brother, William Smith and his wife Joyce of Gallatin, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Elaine Skoda.

Memorial services will be held at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on February 15.  Memorial donations may be made to Eve, Inc, PO Box 122, Marietta OH 45750.
