The Music Of Jerome Kern

NEW MILFORD — Pianist, author and local music critic James Pegolotti will present “The Music of Jerome Kern: on Sunday, February 15, at 4 pm. The program will be at Temple Sholom, 122 Kent Road (Route 7).

With piano selections, video clips and commentaries, Mr Pegolotti will trace the importance of the music of Mr Kern, a Jewish-American composer who bridged the stylistic gap between European operetta tradition and the American musicals, developing the technique of using lyrical song to advance plot and character.

Jerome Kern’s work includes the musicals Show Boat and Swing Time, and the timeless songs “Ol’ Man River,” “Make Believe” and “The Last Time I Saw Paris,” among others.
