NHS Wrestling Wins Bacon Academy Bishel Classic

Newtown High School’s wrestling team dominated the Bacon Academy Bishel Classic in Colchester on February 7, beating 11 top teams from across the state including Fairfield Ludlowe, Suffield/Windsor Locks, Staples of Westport, and Portland/Cromwell. The Nighthawks placed 12 out of 14 wrestlers on the podium, including crowning five tournament champions: Noah Blair in the 106 pound weight division, Ryder Symes (144), Jake Fattibene (150), Antonio Arguello (157), and Jake Maddox (175).

Other place winners: Second place: Owen Blair (113), Ty Jorgenson (138), Seamus Getzinger (144), and Rion Lena (190); third place: Troy DaSilva (165); and fourth place: Micah Houston (106) and Bohdan Petryshyn (138).

Freshman standouts Noah Blair and Fattibene each had three wins and two pins to win their first tournaments. Junior captain Antonio Arguello was awarded the Most Outstanding Wrestler Award for the tournament. He also earned his 100th career pin fall victory.

The team is preparing for the South-West Conference Championships at Bunnell High in Stratford on Saturday, February 14. The matches start at 9 am and championship bouts are expected to begin around 3:30 pm.
