NHS Drama To Present 'Peter Pan' Next Month
In order to make Newtown High School’s upcoming production of Peter Pan fly, organizers are looking at funding alternatives, including an online fundraising page and corporate sponsors for the musical.
Last year’s musical production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying won a national honor for its lead actor.
Peter Pan is scheduled for March 20-23, and professional equipment will be brought in to bring the story’s magic to life on the NHS stage. In order to afford the equipment and professional assistance to install the equipment, however, further funding is needed.
NHS parent Linda Watson set up a website to raise a goal of $5,000. By Tuesday, February 11, $750 had been raised. Corporate sponsors looking to contribute to the cause can contact Lisa Romano by email at lisawromano@gmail.com.
According to Ms Romano the technology and equipment will create a professional theater experience for the audience and students.
“The other goal of the program is to incorporate newer, more complex technical equipment into the production,” said director Jane Matson. “It is imperative that our students have the opportunity to experience these tools before moving into the theater industry.”
More than 75 students will appear in the cast, including junior Victoria Madden as Peter Pan and a cadre of ballerinas, including senior Lauren Russo as Tinker Bell. Rounding out the leads are CJ Landgrebe as Captain Hook, Kirsten Liniger as Tiger Lily, and Lexi Tobin and Jeff Haylon as Wendy and John, respectively. A full cast list is available online.
Adding to the excitement, the pit orchestra, recently named the best in the state, will accompany the show. Brett Boles is the musical director for the show and Kurt Eckhardt is the pit instructor. The student technical crew will be led again by Mitchell Girgasky.
Performances will be Thursday to Saturday, March 20-22, at 7 pm; and Sunday, March 23, at 2 pm matinee Sunday, March 23. Ticket prices are TBA.
In addition, a special open dress rehearsal for senior citizens will be offered on Wednesday, March 19.
