Garner Inmate Arrested On Assault Charge

State police said they were called to the state’s high-security Garner Correctional Institution at 50 Nunnawauk Road about 8 pm on February 8 to investigate an incident involving a prisoner and a prison staff member.

Following an investigation, state police said they arrested inmate Jose Vazquez, 38, on charges of assault on a public safety officer/medical personnel and also failure to submit to fingerprinting.

State police said the female victim of the incident was not injured.

Vazquez is serving a 4½-year sentence in Garner on a conviction for second degree burglary. Vazquez was scheduled for arraignment on the charges in Danbury Superior Court.
