Newtown High Schoolâs girlsâ and boysâ indoor track teams participated in the Class LL State Championships â and set two school records â at New Haven Athletic Center on February 13.
The boys finished 12th with 10 points behind the efforts of John Wlasukâs first-place shot put throw. His throw of 52-08.50 broke the NHS school record, previously set by Wlasuk.
The girls finished 18th with 5.5 points comprise of Lauren Pettinelliâs 4 points for fourth place in the 55 meter hurdles (a time of 9.00) and Reagan Cerneyâs 1.5 points for her fifth-place tie in the 300 with a time of 42.67. Cerney set a school record, breaking the mark she set earlier this winter, with her time.
The trio have qualified to represent Newtown at the State Open on Saturday, February 20.
