Vegetable Gardening In The New Economy
Vegetable Gardening
In The New Economy
The Garden Club of Newtown will host a lecture, âVegetable Gardening in the New Economy,â presented by Joseph Keller, on Tuesday, February 23, at 1pm. The program will be in the lower meeting room of Cyrenius H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street, and all are welcome.
This timely subject will be explored in depth by Mr Keller, who will describe new ideas, methods, and attitudes about vegetable gardening in our climate in this economy.
A landscape designer for over 20 years, Mr Keller and his wife, Ilsa Svendsen, operate a multifaceted business in Ridgefield. The Garden of Ideas is an ornamental stroll garden that is open daily, April through October. The Garden contains an ever growing vegetable garden that produces enough food for an on-site farm stand, a Community Sponsored Agriculture (CSA) program, and a booth at Ridgefield Farmerâs Market.
The Garden of Ideas has a large collection of garden sculpture for sale, as well as an art gallery, and is also a business that designs, maintains and installs gardens. Mr Keller, who first began gardening with his mother and his grandfather, has transformed the 12-acre property into a laboratory and school with remarkable gardens that include woodlands, wetlands, perennials, wildflowers and vegetables. He is recognized in the industry as a savvy plantsman and designer, and writes about gardening for publications such as Fine Gardening and The New York Times.
This lecture is open to the public, there is no charge, and registration is not required. For more information call 203-270-1108.
