Huntingtown DUI
Police said they responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Huntingtown Road, near its intersection with Brushy Hill Road, at about 10 am on February 12.
Police said that motorist Michael L. Burton, Jr, 19, of 20 Washington Avenue was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer SUV on Huntingtown Road, when it went off the right road shoulder while negotiating a curve in the roadway.
Chevrolet passenger Ryan Piccirillo, 18, of 12 Sunny View Terrace received minor injuries in the accident and was treated by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, police said.
After investigating, police said they charged Burton with driving under the influence, illegal possession of alcohol by a minor, and making a restricted turn. Police released Burton on $100 bail for a February 24 arraignment on the charges in Danbury Superior Court.
Button Shop Road
Police report that motorist Lindsey Blouin, 26, of Hinsdale, N.H., was driving a 2003 Toyota Corolla sedan westward near 24 Button Shop Road at about 6:40 pm on February 10, when she lost control of the auto and it went off the right road shoulder, striking a tree.
There were no injuries. Police said they gave Blouin a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Walnut Tree Hill Road
A two-vehicle collision occurred near the southern end of Walnut Tree Hill Road about 6:15 pm on February 12, according to police.
In that incident, Eric Kear, 21, of Brookfield was driving a 1995 Chevrolet C-3500 wrecker southward near 10 Walnut Tree Hill Road, as motorist Kim Rio, 41, of 6 Teachers Ridge Road was driving a 2013 Lexus RX-350 SUV northward there, police said.
Kear lost control of the wrecker on the icy roadway and the crossed the road’s centerline, colliding with the Lexus, police said. The wrecker was not towing a vehicle at the time, police said.
Police said they verbally warned Kear for failure to drive to the right.
Icy Roadway
Motorist Paige Fedorchek, 18, of 45 Sugar Lane was driving a 2003 Jeep SUV westward near 40 Sugar Lane about 8 pm on February 12, when she lost control of the vehicle due to icy road conditions and then struck a utility pole along the right road shoulder, police report.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Fedorchek a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Church Hill DUI
Police report that at about 10:45 pm on February 13, they stopped motorist Theodore Smith, Jr, 59, of 138 Underhill Road near 29 Church Hill Road due to a headlamp violation and a travel lane violation.
After investigating, police charged Smith with driving under the influence, a headlamp violation, and failure to maintain the travel lane.
After processing the charges, Smith posted $5,000 bail for a February 24 arraignment on the three charges in Danbury Superior Court.
Newtown police, however, had learned that police in Cumberland County, Penn, held an outstanding warrant for Smith on a DUI charge. Smith was thus charged with being a fugitive from justice from Pennsylvania and was then held on $50,000 bail in the police lockup for a February 17 appearance in Danbury Superior Court on that charge.
Smith was arraigned on the charges but did not plead to them. He was being held on February 18 on $30,000 bail overall at the Bridgeport Correctional Center.
Hawleyville Collision
A two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Mt Pleasant Road and Hawleyville Road in Hawleyville about 6:40 pm on February 8.
Matthew Perry, 33, of Woodbury was driving a 2011 Ford E-250 commercial van eastward on Mt Pleasant Road and then stopped at a traffic signal at that street’s intersection with Hawleyville Road, police said.
Motorist Matthew Lehane, Jr, 28, of Bethel, who was driving a 2010 Subaru Forester SUV eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, then attempted to stop, but slid on the snowy roadway and struck the rear end of the Ford, according to police.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Lehane for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Old Purdy Station Road
Motorist Gary Snajder, 52, of Monroe, who was driving a 2008 Toyota Tundra pickup truck, was pulling out of a driveway on residential Old Purdy Station Road at about 11:20 pm on February 7, when the truck struck a snow bank and then continued onward, striking an unoccupied parked 2013 Honda Civic sedan, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Snajder for making a restricted turn.
Church Hill Crash
At about 8:15 pm on February 7, motorist Jack Zahansky, 19, of 2 Blackman Road, who was driving a 1999 Ford F-350 pickup truck westward on Church Hill Road, near Edmond Road, struck westbound motorist Laurie Brautigam, 51, of 18 Bentagrass Lane, who was driving a 2006 Toyota Highlander SUV, according to police.
There were no injuries. Police report they issued Zahansky a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Sandy Hook Accident
At about 1:20 pm on February 12, motorist Alice Miller, 72, of 2 Morgan Drive, who was driving a 2010 Toyota Corolla sedan eastward on Berkshire Road, stopped, signaled, and was waiting for traffic to clear so that she could turn left onto Pole Bridge Road, police said.
Eastbound motorist Steven Triplett, 49, of Bethany who was driving a commercial 2000 Chevrolet K-2500 pickup truck, applied the brakes, but slid on the wet roadway and struck the rear end of the Toyota, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Triplett a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
I-84 DUI
At about 11:40 pm on February 6, state police received calls from motorists reporting that someone who was driving a gray 2000 Chevrolet truck was traveling erratically on eastbound Interstate 84, near the Exit 10 interchange, so they responded to the area to investigate.
State police said they located the driver in question and pulled him over. Following an investigation, state police arrested Gary Capozziello, 39, of Southbury on charges of driving under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane, and possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle.
Following arrest processing, state police released Capozziello on $10,000 bail for an appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Minivan Vs Guardcables
During wintry weather at about 10:36 pm on February 14, motorist Darby Fitzgerald, 43, of 29 Chestnut Hill Road, who was driving a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country minivan eastward on Interstate 84, near the Exit 9 interchange, lost control of the vehicle and spun out of control, striking some guardcabling along the right road shoulder, state police said.
Neither Fitzgerald, nor a passenger, were injured, state police said. State police said they issued Fitzgerald an infraction for failure to maintain the travel lane.
Interstate Crash
A two-vehicle accident occurred on westbound Interstate 84, about 1,500 feet east of the Exit 9 interchange, at about 1:40 pm on February 9.
In that incident, motorist Devin Bhavsar, 18, of Danbury, who was driving a 2006 Honda Accord, lost control of that vehicle, resulting in the Honda colliding with a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by Kristen Neff-Abbatiello, 41, of 155 Boggs Hill Road, state police said.
There were no injuries. Bhavsar received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions, state police said.
