For Vocational Training Award

The Weller Foundation, Incorporated (formerly the Vitramon Foundation, Incorporated) of Woodbury, has announced that full-time senior students from Newtown, Joel Barlow, Masuk, Shelton, and Trumbull High Schools may submit applications for this year’s Vincent Voccia Vocational Award.

The Voccia Award will provide financial assistance to one student from each of the five high schools who has selected a vocational-technical career and who will shortly enter vocational training. The award is named for a former trustee, Vincent A. Voccia, of the Vitramon Foundation, Incorporated.

Foundation Trustee and program coordinator Alexander Fraser said the award recipients will be eligible for a grant equal to the lesser of $2,500 or 50 percent of the tuition cost of the vocational program proposed.

Applicants must be US citizens, nationals, or permanent residents. The applicant shall demonstrate interest and talent in his or her chosen field, and must be able to satisfy the admission requirements of the school selected. Any qualified student who submits an application will be considered for the award.

Applications must be received by March 23 at the respective high school guidance department. A minimum of three qualified applications is necessary for each high school to select one award recipient. The award recipient will be announced on or about April 4. Students interested in applying for the award can obtain full details and an application from their school’s guidance department.
