Common Sense Has A Chance

To the Editor:

Last week I wrote a letter to The Bee critical of the planning of a new police station. [“Why A New Police Station,” Letter Hive, 2/19/10.] There was $800,000 for design of a new station in the CIP as of January 25, 2010. I thought this was a continuation of the last administration’s reckless spending. I was wrong.

The request for the design money was removed from the CIP by the first selectman and it is not contained in the final CIP as of February 18, 2010. I also was doubtful that anyone of my legislative representatives would take interest in my concerns. To my surprise I was contacted by three of District II’s representatives and they all seemed well informed and in tune with the current economic situation.

These events have given me hope that common sense has a chance in Newtown.
