Police Reports, February 14-23, 2015
Interstate DUI
State police said they received a report regarding a motorist who was driving erratically on eastbound Interstate 84 in the vicinity of the Exit 9 interchange at about 11:23 pm on February 19, so they went to the area to investigate.
State police said they located the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze auto in question, which was moving erratically, after which they stopped it.
After investigating, state police charged motorist Lindsay Norman, 26, of Woodbury with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the proper lane. Also, state police said they had Norman transported by ambulance to Danbury Hospital for a medical evaluation.
Norman was released on $2,000 bail for a March 3 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, according to state police.
Hattertown Road
Police report that motorist Carlo I. Tamay-Guaman, 20, of Danbury was driving a 2011 Nissan Juke SUV westward on Boggs Hill Road about 10:15 pm on February 15, when the vehicle drove past a stop sign posted at Boggs Hill Road’s intersection with Hattertown Road.
The Nissan crossed both lanes of Hattertown Road and then struck a snow bank and two wooden posts, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Tamay-Guaman an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign.
Intersection Collision
A two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of South Main Street, Meadowbrook Road, and Botsford Hill Road at about 12:10 pm on February 14.
As motorist Rita Frost of 5 Castle Lane, who was driving a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan minivan southward on South Main Street, was attempting to make a right turn to enter westbound Meadowbrook Road, southbound motorist Louise Calandruccio of 49 Appleblossom Lane, who was driving a 2005 Mitsubishi Gallant sedan, attempted to pass the Dodge on the right, resulting in the two vehicles colliding, police said.
There were no injuries. Police report they issued Calandruccio a written warning for illegal passing on the right.
Botsford Hill Accident
At about 8:35 am on February 19, a two-vehicle collision occurred on Botsford Hill Road between its intersections with Little Brook Lane and Button Shop Road, according to police.
Police report that motorist Aston Shim, 58, of Derby was driving a 2005 Ford F-350 truck southward on Botsford Hill Road and then stopped for a school bus, which was picking up some children.
Southbound motorist Jesse Kantor, 36, of West Hartford, who was driving a 2012 Honda Accord sedan, then struck the rear end of the Ford, police said.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Shim, Jesse Kantor, and Honda passenger Isabella Kantor, 8, of Monroe to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said.
Police report they issued Kantor an infraction for following too closely and for distracted driving.
SUV Vs SUV
A two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Church Hill Road and The Boulevard about 3 pm on February 14, according to police.
Police said motorist Patrick Smith, 48, of 10 Hall Lane was driving a 2011 GMC Yukon SUV southward on The Boulevard, as motorist William Tracy, 73, of Monroe was driving a 2007 Honda CR-V SUV westward on Church Hill Road.
The GMC stopped at a stop sign and then entered Church Hill Road, resulting in the two vehicles colliding, police said.
Police said they issued Smith an infraction for a stop sign violation.
U-Turn
Police said that motorist Daniel Peets, Jr, 41, of The Bronx, N.Y., was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic hatchback eastward on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Jordan Hill Road, behind eastbound motorist Ann Dolan, 24, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2011 Ford Edge SUV at about 12:02 pm on February 22.
The Ford then pulled to the side of the road and attempted to make a U-turn, resulting in the two vehicles colliding, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Dolan a written warning for making an illegal U-turn.
Hattertown Crash
A two-vehicle accident happened on Hattertown Road, near the Monroe town line, about 9:10 am on February 22, police report.
Police said motorist Andrew Swartz, 28, of Stamford was driving a 2002 Honda Civic sedan northward, as motorist Laura Placido, 38, of 30 Hi Barlow Road was driving a 2008 Subaru Impreza station wagon southward.
The Honda failed to keep to the right on a curve, resulting in the two vehicles colliding, after which the Subaru struck a snow bank, police said.
There were no injuries. Swartz received a written warning for failure to keep to the right on a curve, police said.
Highway Crash
At about 12:50 pm on February 18 in stop-and-go traffic on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, motorist Amy Serrano, 21, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2004 Honda Pilot SUV, was slowing for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Steve Lowe, 62, of Windsor, who was driving a 1995 Ford truck, state police said.
There were no injuries. State police said they issued Lowe a written warning for following too closely.
Saturn Into Guardrails
At about 5 am on February 14, motorist Bianca Melendez, 20, of Waterbury was driving a 2001 Saturn L-300 auto which went out of control on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 10, resulting in the vehicle striking some flex-beam metallic guardrailing along the right road shoulder, state police said.
There were no injuries. Melendez received an infraction for failure to drive in the established lane, state police said.
Deep Brook Road
Police report an accident during icy road conditions involving an SUV and a bottled-water delivery truck on Deep Brook Road at about 11:30 am on February 23.
Police said motorist Susan Bridges, 50, of 26 Cobblers Mill Road was driving a 2009 Honda Pilot SUV westward on Deep Brook Road, as trucker Michael Callanan, 38, of Naugatuck was driving a 2015 Freightliner M-210 truck eastward there.
While traveling on the slippery road on a curve, each of the vehicles slid into snowbanks along their respective right road shoulders, after which the Honda slid into the Freightliner, police said.
There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.
