Love & Knishes Features Purim Party, Irish Music, Punctuation Guru

SOUTHBURY — Music, a play, and a lively lecture will be sure to life the spirits and chase away winter’s chill at the Love & Knishes Lunch Program at noon every Tuesday the Jewish Federation’s social hall during March. All area adults age 60 and better are invited to make reservations to enjoy lunch and programs at 444 Main Street North.

Hundreds of guests are welcomed each month to come together for delicious dining, friendship, and fun entertainment. The award-winning Jordan Caterers of Cheshire prepares a hot lunch each week, which is served at noon followed, by entertainment at 1 pm.

On March 3, Music From the Heart features pianist Ethel Kaufman teaming up with trumpeter Bucky Milam for a program of favorites from the great American songbook.

On March 10, the holiday of Purim is celebrated with a delicious lunch featuring hamantaschen for dessert (triangular jam-filled pastries), and upbeat music with Jeanne Hinkson on piano and Artie Schnabel on clarinet.

On March 17, “Great Scot — It’s Andrew Carnegie!” features actor Richard Clark, who portrays the man who rose from humble beginnings to become “The King of Steel” and the richest man in the world.

Singer/guitarist Pierce Campbell is featured in the 7th Annual Irish/ Jewish Mishmash on March 24. What could be better than Irish music and Jewish food? Pierce is a former Connecticut State Troubadour, a member of the Kerry Boys and the Funky Butt Jazz Band, and has five CDs to his credit.

“The Punctuation Guru” makes his first appearance on March 31. “How I turned a national holiday into a branded, moneymaking enterprise” is the theme of Punctuation Guru Jeff Rubin’s fun and lively program. This California-based writer and professional speaker will talk about how he turned a publicity stunt into a brand and founded National Punctuation Day.

Lunch reservations must be made by the Friday before each lunch. All programs are open to the public, and there is a suggested lunch donation of $7 for adults age 60 and better and $9.50 for those under 60.
