On The Courts — Youth Basketball Highlights

Grade 5 Travel

Newtown 51, Brookfield 23: Newtown rebounded from a loss at New Caanan a day earlier. Jared Pearson and Matt Gerics led the offense, with Gerics scoring from both the outside and on slashing drives to the basket, while Pearson was unstoppable in the paint. Alex Gerbo controlled the boards and drew several fouls with hard drives to the hoop. Matt Elias had multiple steals on defense, as Newtown limited Brookfield to 3 points in the second half.

Newtown 40, Weston 21: Jamie Cochrane hit several long jumpers and Ethan Carpenter made numerous driving baskets as Newtown pulled away early in the second quarter for a comfortable victory.  Michael Doyle and Jose Houle dished out the assists from the point guard position, while Matt Maturo and Jared Pearson each pulled down double digit rebounds. Devin Luizetti forced several turnovers on defense, leading to easy transition baskets. Newtown is tied for third place in the FCBL, with an 8-3 record.

Boys Grade 5

Giants 47, Celtics 39: Tim VanderHave scored 24 points and Declan Sullivan scored 12 points to lead the Giants. Nicholas Rohrbacher led the team with assists and Jackson Cryder and Matthew Ingwerson led the defense with steals and rebounds. Jack Procaccini scored 16 points to lead the Celtics and Nick Bourgeois added another 8 points. Jake Oliger led the team with assists and George Salaris along with Lucas LaDestro spearheaded the defense with steals and rebounds.

Nighthawks 43, Knicks 27: Matt Davis scored 16 points and Austin LeBlanc added another 9 points in the win. Michael O’Keefe led the team in assists and Max Weber and James Buck were the defensive leaders with steals and rebounds. Bryan Kiley scored 10 points to lead the Knicks. Sam Duffy led the team in assists and Tommy Elliott and Gabriel Barrett had key steals and rebounds.

Huskies 33, Bruins 32: Robert Katrinak scored 15 points and James Accousti added another 9 points to lead the Huskiws. Nathan Williams led the team in assists and Matt Meyers and Holden Turk came up with steals and rebounds. Christian Thanasoulis scored 10 points to lead the Bruins. Dylan Tyrell and Gordon Walsh each added 6 points. Daniel McCarthy led the team in assists and Stephen Brittin and Andrew Svanda led the defense with steals and rebounds.

Wolfpack 46, Raptors 39: Ryan Shaw scored 17 points and James Frazzetta added 16 points in the win. Markus Wessel led the team in assists and Daniel Pearson and Matthew Stewart led the defense with steals and rebounds. Matt Campbell and Joey Duero each scored 10 points to lead the Raptors.  Colin Patrick led the team with assists and Dylan Salano and Trevor Gaines came up with steals and rebounds.
