Red Cross Seeks Heroes Nominations

DANBURY — The American Red Cross in Western Connecticut is seeking nominations of local heroes in preparation for its 19th annual Heroes of Western Connecticut Breakfast to be held Wednesday, May 6, at the Amber Room Colonnade.

Residents of Western Connecticut are encouraged to nominate someone who has changed lives or saved lives in their community. Nominees must work or live in Newtown, Bethel, Bridgewater, Brookfield, Canaan, Danbury, Kent, New Fairfield, New Milford, Redding, Ridgefield, Roxbury, Salisbury, Sharon, Sherman, Warren, or Washington, the 17 towns served by the American Red Cross in Western Connecticut.

The heroic act or actions must have occurred during the 2008 calendar year.

Hero Nominations categories include: Emergency Responder, (including fire, police, EMS, emergency managers, 911 dispatch), Professional (including teachers, doctors, nurses), Good Samaritan Adult, Good Samaritan Youth, Military, Animal Rescue (an animal who rescued people or people who rescued animals), Community Impact, and Spirit of the Red Cross.

Nominations must include a paragraph detailing the nominee’s heroic action, reports, press clippings or contact information for a witness who can verify the actions, and a paragraph explaining how these actions exemplify the humanitarian mission of the Red Cross.

Nominations must be received by close of business on Friday, March 6.

A Nominations Selection Committee comprised of community leaders will select the winners who will be honored at the May Heroes Breakfast. All nominees will receive a special letter from Red Cross.
