Benefit ‘Forum’ For Literacy Volunteers

BRIDGEPORT — Bridgeport’s Downtown Cabaret Theatre will once again play host to the Literacy Volunteers of Southeastern Fairfield County (LVSFC) annual fundraiser on March 18.

LVSFC’s Tenth Annual Cabaret Theatre Event, sponsored by People’s Bank and People’s Securities, will feature a performance of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. The performance will begin at 7 pm, but doors will open one hour earlier so that attendees may enjoy light refreshments prior to the show.

LVSFC is the region’s largest volunteer-based literacy organization, with more than 100 area residents giving their time to assist their neighbors in learning how to read, write and speak English. LVSFC, an affiliate of ProLiteracy America, has been providing literacy training for residents and employees of area businesses for nearly 30 years.

Last year the organization became part of the portfolio of services offered by FSW, the region’s most comprehensive human services provider. The cabaret event has come to represent the group’s annual major fundraising activity.

“We rely on this event to generate some important operational dollars,” says LVSFC Director Wayne Valaitis. “We’re hoping that this year’s event, which features a Broadway classic, will attract a full house.”

Individual tickets for the event are $50 per person, although sponsorships, which include preferred seating and special recognition, are available at prices ranging from $250 to $4,000.

A dessert buffet will be featured during intermission.

Those interested in supporting the organization should contact LVSFC’s offices in Bridgeport at 203-579-2208.
