Police Performance To Be Recognized

Residents who consider the performance of individual town police officers worthy of formal recognition are asked to notify police of that performance as police prepare for their annual awards ceremony scheduled for May.

The police department annually issues awards to officers to recognize consistent excellence, according to Sergeant Douglas Wisentaner, the chairman of the department’s awards and decorations committee.

Citizens who have first-hand knowledge of such excellent performance by police are encouraged to document that performance in the form of a letter or an email message and forward it to Police Chief Michael Kehoe, Sgt Wisentaner said. The deadline for such submissions is March 31.

Police performance is recognized in six categories: departmental medal of honor, award for bravery, award for merit, chief’s service award, commissioner’s service award, and certificate of commendation.
