Newtown Police Arrest Man For 'Inappropriate Communications' With A Minor
Newtown Police arrested a man they allege was attempting to contact a minor while pretending to also be a minor.
On February 26, Newtown Police Department received a complaint regarding inappropriate communications occurring between Paul Melnick, 48, of Newtown, and an individual believed to be under the age of 16.
The incident was investigated by the patrol division and detective division and resulted in an arrest warrant for harmful communications with a minor including shared photos, enticing a minor under 18 using a computer, and misrepresenting age to entice a minor.
Melnick was arrested the following day.
He was charged with harmful communications with a minor including shared photos, a Class A misdemeanor; enticing a minor under 18 using a computer, a Class D felony; and misrepresenting age to entice a minor, a Class C felony.
Melnick pled not guilty to all three charges.
His next scheduled appearance at Danbury Superior Court is March 24, for pre-trial. Melnick was still in custody as of March 3. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
