Dumping Charge

Police report that the owner of JP Maguire Associates of 17 Berkshire Road, Sandy Hook, came to the police station about 5:44 pm March 3 to report that he had just caught someone dumping several garbage bags into a dumpster at the rear of his company’s property.

After investigating the report, police said they charged Richard Novia, 43, of 18 Lake Road with illegal dumping.

The charge stems from the unauthorized use of a privately owned dumpster, police said.

The charge carries a $110 fine, which may be paid by mail or challenged in Danbury Superior Court, police said.

Satellite TV

Police said they learned March 2 that a satellite television receiver had been stolen from a Washington Avenue residence in Sandy Hook. The theft is believed to have occurred during the past three weeks.

Police ask anyone with information about the larceny to contact them at 426-5841.

South Main Accident

Motorist Cesar C. Dasilva, 58, of Danbury was driving a 1991 Chevrolet Blazer northbound on South Main Street about 7 am March 7 when the vehicle went out of control on the wet, slushy roadway, crossed over into the southbound lane and hit a fire hydrant at the intersection of South Main Street and Greenbriar Lane.

Dasilva was not injured, police said. Police said he made a restricted turn.

Police notified United Water that its fire hydrant had been struck.

Multiple Crashes

Police report three separate accidents in rapid sequence in snowy conditions on Scudder Road about 8 am March 2, which closed down the hilly street off Route 302.

Police said motorist Jody Minalgo, 16, of 53 Scudder Road was driving a 1991 Ford Explorer southbound and lost traction on a downhill curve near #14 Scudder Road, slid off the northbound road shoulder and struck a utility pole.

Shortly after that, southbound motorist Neville M. Mayer, 61, of 33 Ashford Lane, who was driving a 2000 Honda CRV, lost traction and tried to avoid striking the disabled Ford, but slid into a utility pole.

Shortly after that, southbound motorist Robert T. Eckenrode, 47, of 3 Wildcat Road, who was driving a 1987 Toyota 4-Runner, spotted the two disabled vehicles from the previous accidents, but lost traction, and slid into the unoccupied Ford, police said.

Police closed down Scudder Road for a time to get the damaged vehicles out of the area.

There were no injuries in any of the three accidents. No enforcement action was taken.
