NCC Members Attend Retreat At Wisdom House
Thirty members of the Newtown Congregational Church âmade a joyful noiseâ last Saturday at an all-day retreat sponsored by the deacons at Wisdom House in Litchfield.
âThe Joyful Christianâ program was led by Lynn Buttner. Carl Lindquist led the music with his guitar. The coordinators were Sharon Goodkowsky and other members of the Board of Deacons.
The program was based on Paslm 100, which reads âmake a joyful noise unto the Lord⦠and serve the Lord with gladnessâ¦â The group sang, meditated, and read scriptures about joy. In small groups, they shared stories of Godâs interventions in their own lives and the times when they rejoiced in the Lord.
The group traveled to Litchfield by school bus and was fed snacks and a hearty lunch by the staff at Wisdom House, a retreat and conference center operated by the Sisters of Wisdom. Meals are prepared on the site and are generally vegetarian.
The facilities include the Marie Louise Trichet Art Gallery, a chapel, a bookstore, and facilities to handle 115 overnight guests. The outdoor pool and labyrinth are used when weather permits. For more information call 860/567-3163.
