ESSEX, MASS. — Blackwood/March Auctioneers has scheduled an estates, fine arts and antiques auction for Tuesday, March 20, at 6 pm with a preview from 4 to 5:55 pm, the day of the sale.

The sale will be interesting with significant paintings from deceased artist’s estates, some good accessories and one very interesting Federal table. An array of New England art will be offered with an emphasis on the Cape Ann school.

Notable in the sale will be artworks offered from the estates of artists Carl W. Peters, George Bowman, Russ Webster and Ben Paulekas.

Prominent works include a Carl W. Peters oil view of Gloucester harbor ($4/6000); an Emile A. Gruppe oil, “Gloucester Fog,” ($5/8 ,000); and an Antonio Ciriono oil, fall landscape ($3/5,000). Twenty-five oils from the estate of artist George Bowman will be offered for sale including marine scenes, western scenes and genre scene. Bowman studied at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University and has exhibited at the Salmagundi Club, National Arts Club, the Atlantic National show and has received many awards.

Modernist works include Ludwig Bemelsons oil, “Atibedes”; and Paul Klee’s lithograph, “Masque.” Other notable artists represented include Anders Zorn, Marion Powers, Charles Woodbury, Earnest NeNagy, Gifford Beal and many others.

Leading the early furniture is a lovely Massachusetts Federal one-drawer stand with banded inlay, reeded legs and serpentine top ($2/4,000). Other early furniture includes a classical mahogany sofa, a classical mahogany breakfast table and a selection of Victorian furniture.

Accessories include a rare signed Turkish carpet, other estate Oriental carpets, bisque headed dolls and doll furniture, a Chelsea ship’s clock and a birding library.
