‘Portraits Noir’ To Open Flagpole Photographers March Activities
Flagpole Photographers Camera Club will welcome March with an engaging series of programs and events designed to inspire, challenge, and connect photographers of all experience levels.
On Thursday, March 12, at 7:30 pm, club member Sandy Schill, MNEC, will present “Portraits Noir,” a hands-on program exploring low-key lighting and dramatic portraiture. The free event will be held at Newtown Senior Center, 8 Simpson Street. Guests are welcome and encouraged to bring a camera or smartphone.
The club’s monthly competition will take place Thursday, March 26, with social time at 7 pm and competition at 7:30. Categories include Nature, Open Color, Open Monochrome, Assigned Subject, and Monthly Challenge. March’s assigned subject is “Picture A Song,” and the monthly challenge is “Still Life.” The event will be offered both in person at the Senior Center and online.
Looking ahead, the club’s annual Workshop Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 2. This hands-on field workshop will explore the historic charm of Newtown and Sandy Hook. The event is free for members; non-members may attend for $25, which includes membership for the remainder of the season. Details to follow.
The club is also celebrating a recent triumph. In mid-February, Flagpole Photographers faced off against the New Haven Camera Club in a friendly interclub competition — and came out on top. Award-winning guest judge Jay Cohen of Fairfield County evaluated paired images side by side, selecting a winner in each category.
After an evening of intense competition and camaraderie, Flagpole claimed the title. Results from the showdown are available on the club website.
Flagpole Photographers is a nonprofit camera club committed to nurturing creativity and building community among photographers of all experience levels.
