Auto Hits Utility Pole
Causing Power Outage, Road Closure
About 11:10 pm March 2, motorist Stanley Urban, 30, of New Haven, who was driving a 1994 Saturn SL-1 sedan southward on Scudder Road, lost control of the auto on the icy road, crossed into the opposite lane and went off the left road shoulder, striking a utility pole, police said. The pole snapped and fell onto the Saturn, police said. The accident occurred near Scudder Roadâs intersection with Route 302.
Dodgingtown and Newtown Hook & Ladder firefighters extricated from the vehicle both Urban and Saturn passenger John Peters, no age given, of Great Ring Road, according to police. The dual extrication occurred after the local electric utility company shut off power in the area.
Ambulance volunteers transported the driver and the passenger to Danbury Hospital for treatment, police said.
The accident caused a localized power outage and also an extended closure of Scudder Road for utility repair work. Police verbally warned Urban for failure to drive to the right.
