Holocaust Survivors

And Second Generation Group To Meet

SOUTHBURY — Area Holocaust survivors, their children and grandchildren are invited to a meeting and bagel breakfast on Sunday, March 11, at 10 am, at the Walzer Family Jewish Community Campus, 444 Main Street North.

The Holocaust Survivors and Second Generation Group is sponsored by Brownstein Jewish Family Service and has been meeting since March 1998. At that time, a few children of Holocaust survivors got together at the Jewish Federation office to talk about their parents’ stories and what it was like for them to grow up as the children of survivors.

After several meetings, participants decided that they wanted to expand the group to include survivors so that the two generations could talk, listen, and learn from one another. The group meets about eight times per year on a Sunday morning to share stories, hear survivors speak, educate the public on the Holocaust, and discuss current events. The group currently includes about 30 survivors and 50 children or grandchildren of survivors.

The March 11 gathering will be a social time, a chance to meet and greet old friends and newcomers and catch up on news. Participants are encouraged to bring books, newspaper articles, photos, or anything else they would like to share. There will also be a brief discussion about future programs and a summer meeting to be hosted in someone’s home.

Reservations are requested, and can be made by calling Debby Horowitz at 267-3177, extension 105. In case of snowy weather, a message will be left at that number canceling the program.
