Low Cost Spay/Neuter & Vaccination For Cats Available To Newtown Residents
Low Cost Spay/Neuter & Vaccination
For Cats Available To Newtown Residents
Spay & Neuter Association of Newtown and The Animal Center will be sponsoring a low-cost spay/neuter and vaccination clinic for cats on Friday, March 23, in collaboration with the TEAM Mobile Feline Unit, Connecticutâs only mobile spay/neuter and vaccination clinic for cats. The March event will be the second low-cost spay/neuter clinic brought to Newtown through SNAN, The Animal Center and TEAM after an initial successful clinic in October 2006.
Cat and dog overpopulation results in millions of animal deaths each year. While the thousands of kittens and puppies born every hour in the United States are adorable, there are simply not enough caring homes for so many animals. More than four million of them will be euthanized in community shelters each year, at a cost of approximately $2 billion to US taxpayers.Â
Spaying or neutering pets and feral cats is the most effective way to reduce the vast numbers of animals who are born only to die prematurely and without a family who loves them. Through this event, the low-cost services provided by the nonprofit TEAM Mobile Feline Unit will be reduced from $67 to just $30 per cat. In addition to spay or neuter, TEAM will also give each cat a brief exam, vaccinations (rabies, distemper, upper/lower respiratory infection), a nail trim and ear mite treatment, if necessary.
The March low-cost clinic is for cats only and will be open exclusively to Newtown residents who have limited financial resources or who are feeding feral cats in their neighborhood. Space is limited to 40 cats and reservations are required.
