Occupation: I’m a principal in a small company that provides software to institutional investors. It’s called Investment Technologies and we write the software.

Family: I have been happily married for 22 years to George. He’s a member of the Conservation Commission and is a fundraising consultant for nonprofits. We have three kids. Kaitlyn is 19, Casey is 16, and Liam is 13. My parents, Norman and Bill White, and my sister live in town, too.

Pets: We have Sam, who is 13 years old and the sweetest yellow Lab you ever met.

How long have you lived in Newtown? We moved here in 2002 from Long Island.

What do you like to do in your free time? Right now I’m taking a Mandarin Chinese course from June King and next month I’ll be taking sexual assault and domestic violence training to be a hotline volunteer with the Women’s Center of Greater Danbury. And I’m an avid reader.

Do you have a favorite author? Dennis LeHane, who wrote Shutter Island, and Sarah Grune, who wrote Water For Elephants.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? We like the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The sand and ocean there are wonderful. It’s so warm and the water temperature is perfect. We’ve sat through a hurricane there, but I would still go back.

What is the best thing about Newtown? The people and the natural beauty. Everyone here is so warm and welcoming. It’s really refreshing.

Who do you most admire? My parents. They’ve been happily married for 55 years and they are each other’s best friend. They instilled in their three daughters a sense of family.

Do you have a philosophy? Don’t pass up the opportunity to tell people you care about them, because you might not get the chance to again. Also, you can do anything if you put your mind to it.

Do you have a favorite memory? Right before 9/11, our family went on vacation to Syracuse Lake with two other families. From the first day to the last day the 14 of us did everything together and laughed like we had never done before. Then 9/11 happened and the following weekend we all had dinner together. Two of the people had gotten out of the World Trade Center building on 9/11, so we had so much to be grateful for, that we were all together.
