Old Shoes As Art Created By Students Of Sherman School
SHERMAN â Eighth graders at The Sherman School have turned old, discarded shoes into works of art, which are now on display at The Sherman Library. The collection, âWalk A Mile In My Shoes,â will remain on view at the library until March 31.
The show represents the culmination of a multi-faceted art and writing project that was conducted under the direction of art teacher Alisyn Hamilton.
To begin the assignment, each student chose a shoe, envisioned its life, and completed a three-dimensional drawing that was converted into an ink print. Then they decorated their shoes with paint, glitter, and other materials. Finally, they completed a poem or essay reflecting the imagined life of their shoe. The show will feature examples from all three phases.
Two of the students won awards for their ink prints at the Connecticut Scholastic Art Awards competition.
The library is at 1 Sherman Center. Library hours are Tuesday through Friday, 11 am to 6 pm; and Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm. For additional information, contact the library at 860-354-2455.
