Ducks Unlimited Director Will Explain Avian Ecology
WOODBURY â Dr Craig Ferris from the nationally known wildlife conservation organization known as Ducks Unlimited will be speaking to the Western Connecticut Bird Club at its monthly meeting on Thursday, March 16, at the Woodbury Library.
Dr Ferris, a Newtown resident, will provide an historic overview of Ducks Unlimited (DU) and discuss DUâs major conservation initiatives throughout North America and in New England. Ducks Unlimited conserves, restores, and manages wetland and upland habitat for waterfowl.
Dr Ferris has worked for Ducks Unlimited 12 years as Regional Director for Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Western Massachusetts. His role is to work with volunteers toward raising the funds necessary to support the conservation mission. He has a bachelor of science degree in wildlife biology from Cornell University, a master of science degree from West Virginia University, and a PhD from the University of Maine at Orono. Throughout his studies, his emphasis has been on avian ecology.
There will be a social gathering at 6:30 pm and the meeting begins at 7. Meetings are usually over by 8:30. Thursday nightâs meeting will be held at the Woodbury Public Library on Main Street. The library is not visible from the road, but the driveway is directly opposite the traffic light at the intersection of Main Street and Route 317. All of Woodburyâs municipal buildings are down this driveway.
Heading north, turn right, and heading south, turn left, driving alongside a building and down the driveway. There is parking by the Shove Building, straight back and up a small hill. Or turn left after the Shove Building, and park between the police station and the library.
