George J. Smith
George J. Smith, 78, of Sandy Hook and previously of North Salem, N.Y., died March 7 at Ashlar of Newtown. He was the husband of Lucy Smith of Sandy Hook.
Born in Manhattan on January 3, 1923, Mr Smith was a son of the late George D. and Charlotte (Raab) Smith.
Mr Smith graduated from New York Universityâs College of Engineering. He had been employed as a computer engineer with Information Display Inc. in Mt Kisco, N.Y., retiring in 1972.
Mr Smith served in the Dwyer branch in World War II, receiving a Purple Heart for actions taken on June 16, 1945, in Okinawa. He and his wife were married in New York, N.Y.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, David Smith of St Petersburg, Fla.; a daughter, Lucina Buonocore of Sandy Hook; and five grandchildren.
Services took place March 12 at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Terrace, Brewster, N.Y., with the Rev Kenneth White officiating. Burial was in Peach Pond Cemetery, North Salem, N.Y.
