Itâs looks like the Thundercats will be entering the playoffs of the Girlsâ Senior Basketball League as the No. 1 seed â with the Killer Smurfs and Purple Splash a close No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. The league, sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department, began its playoffs on Thursday (after press time) at Newtown High School.

THUNDERCATS 37, KOOTERâS COYOTES 33: Erin Saunders scored 12 points and Ashleigh Smarrella added 10 more to lead the âCats past the Coyotes. Caitlyn Lynch and Laura Howard powered the offense while Angela Shannon and Kelli Peterman had nice floor games. For the Coyotes, Shannon Rouse canned 13 points and Mallory McQuail added 12. Kim Helfer, Caroline Kunkel and Jen Russell also played well.
JOLLY GREEN GIANTS 32, BLAZINâ BOOTIES 23: Kristen McGrath and Karie Frawley scored eight points apiece to lift the Giants to the win. Katie Miller, Lauren Blomberg and Laura Willing all played well. For the Booties, Caitlin Martin scored nine points and Kate Bouteiller added seven more. Michele Nelson, Jamie Minalgo, Sarah Minor and Lorraine Narel had solid performances.
KILLER SMURFS 51, PURPLE SPLASH 46: Mary Bell scored 13 points and Kelly Collier added 10 as the Smurfs nipped the Splash. Becky McCullough, Kelly McLaughlin, Carrie Young and Michele Grimaldi all played well. For the Splash, Colleen Davis poured in 22 points while Janie Zingoni added 10. Ally Smith, Sarah Kaechele and Monica Zigman all played well.
