WATERBURY — Naugatuck Valley Community College will present the Fifth Annual Connecticut Wine Symposium on Saturday, March 27. The event is sponsored by the Connecticut Chapter of the American Wine Society in conjunction with the Connecticut Wine Trail, Connecticut Vineyard and Winery Association, and students of the college’s hospitality programs.

The day-long conference begins with coffee and registration from 8 to 9 am, and includes breakfast and luncheon buffets and an afternoon wine reception.

Renowned wine yeast specialist Sigid Gersten-Briand of Lallemand Yeasts in Quebec, Canada, will be among the featured speakers. She will discuss the proper use of yeast, nutrients, and malo-lactic practices in wine production.

Other speakers include Wayne Stitzer, who will discuss how to fix sick wines; Larry McCulloch, who will explain grape growing techniques and vineyard management; and Jim LaMondia of the Connecticut Agricultural Experimentation Station, who will explain how to detect, identify and cure grape diseases.

A panel discussion involving members of AWS and CVWA is also planned.
