‘PICTURING UTOPIA’ AT CORCORAN APRIL 5

AVV 1-24 #685838

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Corcoran Gallery of Art will present a gallery talk, “Picturing Utopia,” on Thursday, April 5, at 7 pm, at Corcoran Bridge, given by Stephen Mansback, professor of art history at University of Maryland, College Park.

At the core of the Modernist endeavor was the ambition to envision a “New Humankind” to inhabit a projected New World of ideal relationships. Photographers, architects, designers, sculptors and painters took inspiration from science and engineering to construct (or project) a perfect image of a future Utopia, toward which Modernist art and artifacts might not only point the way but also materially help to create.

Corcoran Gallery of Art is at 500 17th Street NW. For information, www.corcoran.org or 202-639-1700.
