Orienteering Meet At Paugussett March 26

An area-wide Western Connecticut Orienteering Club Meet will be held on Sunday, March 26, at Paugussett State Park in Newtown. Registration and starts are scheduled from 10 am to noon, and all standard courses will be available.

All are welcome. Instruction and compasses will be available. Fee is $5 per person. Tony Muffatti of Bethel will be setting up the event. Participants will use an orienteering map and the compass to find their way across the terrain, seeking orange and white flags at various land features.

Features are marked on the map and act as checkpoints along the course. Participants decide on the route to the feature and punch a score card to confirm finding the flag. In orienteering as a competition, the winner is the competitor who punches all the flags in the shortest time. At Paugussett, all standard courses from beginner to expert will be available. Instruction and training will be available for beginners.

For additional information contact Mr Muffatti, 798-1231, or club coordinator George Walker at 860/658-7963.
