Boggs Hill Accident

Motorist Amanda Choun, 23, of 47 Bear Hills Road, was driving a 1998 Volkswagen Jetta on a snowy Boggs Hill Road about 7:45 am March 7, when she approached a curve and then slid off the right side of the road, coming to rest against a small tree, police said.

Choun was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Obtuse Road

About 12:10 am on March 3, motorist Heidi Guendelsberger, 18, of New Milford was driving a 2003 Jeep northward in icy conditions near 3 Obtuse Road, when the Jeep went into a skid, went off the right side of the road, reentered the road, and was disabled due to vehicular damage, police report.

Guendelsberger was not injured. Police verbally warned her for making a restricted turn.

NHS Drug Sale

On March 7, police arrested two male students at Newtown High School as a result of a drug sale.

Police said they arrested a 14-year-old boy on charges of possession of marijuana and sale of marijuana for allegedly selling some marijuana to another student.

Police arrested a 15-year-old boy on a charge of possession of marijuana for allegedly buying the drug from the other boy.

The 14-year-old boy is slated to appear in Danbury Juvenile Court on March 19. The other boy is scheduled to appear in that court on March 26.

State law shields the identities of people under age 18 who are charged with crimes.

High School Arrest

Midday on March 7, police charged a male 15-year-old Newtown High School student with breach of peace for allegedly throwing a bucket of snow onto one student and for throwing some orange juice into the face of another student.

The youth is scheduled to appear March 19 in Danbury Juvenile Court to answer the charges. State law shields the identities of people under age 18 who are charged with crimes.

Hattertown Road

About 7 pm March 6, motorist Diane Merritt, 46, of Bethel, who was driving a 2004 Saturn Vue northward near 224 Hattertown Road, collided with a deer that had run onto the road, police said. Merritt was not injured, police said.

SUV Vs SUV

Police said that at about 9:45 am on March 7, motorist Kathy Sweeney, 57, of 14 Arrowhead Lane was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Suburban northward on a snow-covered Walker Hill Road, as motorist Kevin Ross, 36, of 5 Walker Hill Road was driving a 2002 Ford Expedition southward there.

At a curve in the road, the Chevrolet slid into the path of the Ford and the two SUV’s collided, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Sweeney an infraction for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Super Stop & Shop

Police report that on the afternoon of March 10, they arrested Anne Gargano, 57, of 42 Currituck Road on a charge of sixth-degree larceny for alleged shoplifting at Super Stop & Shop supermarket at Sand Hill Plaza on South Main Street.

Additionally, police charged her son, Joseph Gargano, III, 33, of 42 Currituck Road with breach of peace and with interfering with police after he caused an incident by shouting at the store manager at the supermarket.

Both people charged were released for March 27 appearances in Danbury Superior Court.

Danbury Man

While on patrol on Route 25 on the evening of March 10, police noticed a cracked windshield on a vehicle being driven by Ivan Figueroa, 24, of Danbury, so they stopped Figueroa to investigate.

Police charged Figueroa with driving a vehicle with a defective windshield and with driving while under suspension.

After processing, police released Figueroa on $100 bail for a March 27 court appearance.

Warrant Served

After police made a vehicular stop on the morning of March 9 near the intersection of Wasserman Way and the Exit 11 on-ramp of Interstate 84, they realized that they wanted a passenger in that vehicle on a warrant in connection with a past offense.

Police said they charged Catherine O’Grady, 35, of 54 Great Ring Road with first-degree failure to appear in court and with first-degree larceny.

Police said they then held O’Grady on $10,000 bail for an appearance in Danbury Superior Court that day. O’Grady was being held this week on $10,000 bail at York Correctional Institution in Niantic.

Burglary/Larceny

Sometime between 4:30 pm on March 5 and 7:45 am on March 6, someone broke into a shed at the Planter’s Choice Nursery at 31 Meadow Brook Road, stealing several items and damaging property, police said. The crime involved burglary, larceny, and criminal trespassing. Police ask anyone with information on the crime to contact them at 426-5841.

Route 25

Motorist Laci Tinch, 25, of 34 Meadow Brook Road was pulled over by police on Route 25 on the afternoon of March 9 for driving an unregistered vehicle, according to police. Police charged Tinch with driving an unregistered vehicle and driving while under suspension. Police released Tinch on a promise to appear March 21 in Danbury Superior Court.

Van Off Road

About 2:20 pm March 8, motorist Frederick Kasbarian, 68, of 1 Brassie Road was driving a commercial 1998 Ford Econoline van northward on Taunton Hill Road, when several deer ran onto the street, police said.

Kasbarian attempted to avoid a collision, but lost control of the van and went off the left side of the road, striking a wall and a tree, police said. Kasbarian was not injured. Police verbally warned him for making a restricted turn.

Berkshire Road

About 1:30 pm March 8, motorist Peter Schirmer, 48, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 1995 Dodge Intrepid eastward on Berkshire Road, slowed in order to turn left onto Pole Bridge Road, police said.

Eastbound motorist Rita Valverde, 46, of Danbury, who was driving a 2001 Suzuki station wagon, then struck the Dodge from behind, police said.

There were no injuries. Valverde received an infraction ticket for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and for driving without a license.

Pickup Truck

About 4:30 am March 10, motorist Frederick Coscia, 44, of 2 Floral Heights Road, who was driving a 2001 Ford F-350 pickup truck westward on Hattertown Road, drifted off the right road shoulder and struck some rock ledge, police said. Coscia told police that he had fallen asleep while driving. Coscia was not injured. Police said Coscia made a restricted turn.

South Main DUI

Police report that at about 3 am March 10, motorist Jamaal Fewell, 26, of New Milford was driving a 1993 Nissan Altima sedan northward on South Main Street, just south of South Main Street’s northern intersection with Peck’s Lane, when the Nissan failed to negotiate a curve in the road and struck about 50 feet of guard cabling along the right road shoulder. Fewell kept traveling with a flat tire for about one-quarter mile, police said.

Police charged Fewell with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn. Fewell posted $100 bail for a March 27 court appearance.

Mercedes Damaged

Sometime between 2 and 2:45 pm on March 4, an unknown motorist hit and damaged a parked, vacant 2007 Mercedes-Benz C-280 sedan, which was parked in the lot at Newtown Shopping Village on Queen Street, police said. The offender left the scene. Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at 426-5841.

Two Incidents

On March 8, police charged Marilyn Matschke, 50, of 39 Bear Hills Road with criminal violation of a protective order in connection with her presence at a property which a judge had ordered her to avoid. After posting $1,000 bail, police released her for a March 9 court appearance.

On March 9, Matschke again appeared at the property and was charged with the same offense, police said.

After posting $20,000 bail, police released her for a March 12 court appearance.

I-84 Altercation

State police report a verbal altercation between two motorists on the side of eastbound Interstate 84’s Exit 9 off-ramp about 3:30 pm March 9.

The argument concerned a lane change thatone of the drivers had made, state police said.

State police issued motorist James Rodriguez, 54, of 55 The Boulevard an infraction ticket on a charge of creating a public disturbance.

High Speeds

State police report they detected motorist Frank Celestino, 21, of Bethel driving 100 miles per hour on westbound Interstate 84 on the evening of March 5, after which he increased his speed to 110 mph.

Celestino was traveling from the area of Exit 13 to Exit 10, state police said.

Celestino did not stop for police and continued onward, state police said. Celestino was later found behind Hawley School on Church Hill Road, state police said.

 Celestino was arrested on charges of reckless driving, speeding, and engaging police in pursuit. After posting $1,000 bail, he was released for a March 19 court appearance.

Coupe Vs Coupe

Motorist Clayton Lebebvre, 85, of Newington, who was driving a 1997 Buick Riviera coupe eastward on Church Hill Road about 1:51 pm March 2, attempted to make a left turn into the Church Hill Gas Stop gas station there, police said.

At that time, motorist Richard Budman, 71, of 5 Barker Road was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Corvette coupe westward on Church Hill Road, police said.

When Lebebvre saw the Chevrolet approaching him, he stopped the Buick, police said. Budman then swerved the Chevrolet to the right to avoid a collision, but drove into some curbing, police said.

Police verbally warned Lebebvre for making a restricted turn.

Warrant

On March 12, police arrested a Waterbury man on a warrant in connection with his not attending Danbury Superior Court for a scheduled court date in a pending case.

Police said they charged William Watson, 46, with first-degree failure to appear in court, driving under the influence, driving a motor vehicle without a license, and possession of a weapon (knife) in a motor vehicle.

Police said that Watson had failed to appear in court on the charges on January 31.

The original charges stem from Watson being stopped by police at a sobriety checkpoint on Mt Pleasant Road early on the morning of November 26.

After he posted $10,000 bail on March 12, police released Watson for a March 27 court appearance.
